Yes, the reports are delivered by email, and I did at first suspect that they were delayed (as this was often the case with that plug-in) – however, if you’re in tune with the sorts of updates you’re making you recognize the reports being echoed back to you and these were all “fresh” updates it was sending to me.

I had considered deleting the WP File Monitor plug-in and making some changes on the server to see what happens, but now that I *have* it working in a non-intrusive, magically zombified fashion I’m loathe to let it go away…. even for the sake of chasing down this bug.

Still, maybe I should, “for science”, because I am worried at this black magic! How do you suppose this particular process was kept active after I had supposedly deactivated the plug-in? (yes, I quintuple-checked to makes sure that it was listed as “deactivated” before making this post)

I’ve seen this happen on some other blogs… something may be wrong with the latest update to Secure WordPress, or there may be a conflict with another plugin.

    Thanks Donncha ??

I believe the issue I encountered might have been a lingering custom field setting from some previous MP3 player as everything seems to be working now (and I’m marking this thread resolved). I’ll put a little tip in your jar when I’m administering sites this coming weekend. Thanks for the work on the plugins! ??

Ah, I finally found that this is a known issue.

Anyone else who wanders along after me should check this thread for more information:

    Thanks for the walk-through Simon!

On an older WordPress blog I admin we’re using a plug-in called “Self Image” by Vaan Yob. You have to physically paste an HTML filepath to the image into a post, but then wrap it with that plugin’s custom tags. It’s a bit of work but achieves the intended purpose.

I must say that I’m surprised that to-date WordPress has not included the ability that Stunt, the starter of this thread, has requested. This ability is one that’s seen on any number of popular websites (say Gizmodo or Engadget). It has become a common expectation that clicking the image will lead to the full article, not to a static page displaying the image or a “pseudo” page that has all the visual hallmarks of your site, sans the text that relates to the image.

In fact, the more I think about it, it seems that the DEFAULT setting for WordPress would indeed be for the image to lead to the Single Page for the post.

Styling the image’s size upward or downward could be achieved through CSS, as the Single Page and other pages have IDs that can be referenced to discriminate between each other.

I wonder if there’s a way to submit a ticket for this, or if it has already been dealt with in version 2.5 of WordPress…

This is awesome, thanks you guys! I see that both your plugins handle the images in a similar fashion, using comment wrappers as a target. I’ve installed Vaam’s and it works great! When I have time I’m going to look at the code to try to understand how it works – maybe I’ll write my own plugin one day! I’m curious as to whether there’s a way to make the image NOT be a link when you’re viewing the full, individual post. No big deal if it can’t… would just be nice.

    Consider my question answered!
