In reply to: WP generated SQL for orderby meta is super slow on very large DBsI really doubt there are many WordPress sites with hundreds of thousands of posts.
I guess by “so many” I just meant that there’s at least a few, and they’re big and successful, and obviously not falling over every five minutes: https://bbshowcase.org/forums/view/top100
Do you guys mean to say that www.ads-software.com et al are actually kind of doing a stupid thing, and they’d save on their VPS bill if they just accepted that they should be using PHPBB? Are they just constantly kludging BBPress in to working every time they hacks go obsolete?
Tangentially, why hasn’t WordPress just been made to be scalable yet?

In reply to: WP generated SQL for orderby meta is super slow on very large DBsI mean it matters in that I don’t want to hand over a site that’s going to break on the next update.
To be clear, the site is slow with normal use because of the way WP handles these queries; the problem isn’t a slow import.
There are so many sites out there that have hundreds of thousands if not millions of posts. How are they all coping?

In reply to: WP generated SQL for orderby meta is super slow on very large DBsDoesn’t that create the risk that WordPress just gets rid of my index next time it updates?

In reply to: [Moon Phase Widget] InaccurateThanks for letting me know. Unfortunately I didn’t get a notification email of your review, otherwise I would have been able to fix this much sooner.
I’ve now fixed it, and it works. If you could check it out, and let me know if there are still things you don’t like about it, I’ll be happy to work on those too.
Now that it works, if you’re willing to increase your rating, that would really help me out.
Thanks.

In reply to: [Moon Phase Widget] Moon phase not always correct [updated]Oh wow, that’s embarrassing.
Thank-you so much, this might have taken me forever to figure out, since the development server I use doesn’t have caching enabled, but the production server does, as you’ve identified.
I’ve fixed the caching issue – and I’ve added a date stamp (if people don’t like this, I’ll remove it).
Now that it’s fixed, if you’re willing to alter your rating, that would really help me out.
Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks again.
