Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Why did WordPress remove TinymceThe problem was that the Windows 7 zip program and 7 zip will not compress some of the files in WordPress 3.5 – many of the .js files in fact. I did not have this problem with 3.4.1 which was the last WordPress version I installed before this one.
WordPress is too gigantic a program. Too gigantic to be uploading file by file.
I generally try to discourage my clients from using WordPress because I feel it’s too big and complicated. Plus a new version comes out every two weeks it seems, and you’re nagged to no end until you upgrade. One could literally spend more time upgrading than blogging. If it were just to plug security holes then a small simple patch would suffice instead of having to re-install the entire program.
I realize that my opinion means nothing, but WordPress would do well to have a much smaller, lighter version with fewer features perhaps that non-full-time-bloggers could use.

In reply to: Why did WordPress remove TinymceIn many cases you cannot download the WordPress zip file and then upload it to a web server because it is too big. It has to be opened and the folders and sub-folders compressed into smaller files and then uploaded. Neither the Windows 7 zip program or 7 zip is able to zip some of the files in WordPress for some reason. Many files are omitted in the compression process.
WordPress laid a bad egg with 3.5.

In reply to: Why did WordPress remove TinymceNo, not a one and the text is also white. You can see the words of the sample page (editing) if you highlight them with your mouse.

In reply to: Why did WordPress remove TinymceThis seems rather silly to me. I mean which is worse? A cluttered looking editor where you could a least make a word bold, add a list and an image or an uncluttered editor where you can’t do these things?
So I guess making the words on the editor white to match the white background color of the editor was to keep in step with WordPress’s desire to maintain that uncluttered look also.
I think I’ll just go back to 3.4.1 where things made a little more sense.

In reply to: Add New PageTinymce used to come with WordPress and it had all the features a poster would need and then some. Now WordPress just comes with a blank editor with NO features like bold, italicize or underline.
It seems as though WordPress has reached as good as it gets and are now going back to the days where if you want to communicate with others you need a pencil and a piece of paper. I don’t know, maybe it’s time to take another look a B2Evolution.

In reply to: Visual editor not working (for post or page)It’s not working on my new fresh install of 3.5 either. So I doubt it’s anything you’ve done.

In reply to: Add New PageSwitched to twentyeleven and still no editor. I only have to wait a week or two and a new version of WordPress will come out. Maybe this issue will be fixed in that one.
I’m going to download version 3.4.2 and see if that one works. I installed 3.4.1 for a customer two or three months ago so I know that one works.

In reply to: WordPress installed but did not create databaseI always create two database users – one with the authority to create/delete/edit database tables and the other just to read and write to the databases. I mistakenly used the one that can only read and write to the database instead of the other.
I received the message that it (WordPress) installed successfully – after – all the “couldn’t create database tables” error messages. So I’m at the login form but can’t login obviously because there isn’t a database table with the admin login information.
I was hoping to avoid having to delete and reinstall everything by simply importing the create database page from PhpMyAdmin.
Oh well, back to the beginning.
