Oh right. I had assumed it would show up in the Updates or Plugins list.

    Thank you.

I see where I can change this by user roles or page inclusions/exclusions – but I’m not seeing a way to not show it in the admin otherwise – what am i missing?

@kentbrew, thank you so much for taking the time to investigate this issue further.

‘wp-admin’ is the path for the admin of WordPress sites. There are plugins out there to change this default URL. Here are a few:

HC Custom WP-Admin URL: 20,000 installs

    Protect your Admin: 30,000 installs

    WPS Hide Login: 200,000+ installs

If the Pinterest extension could also look for other tell tale indicators that may be of value. For example the <body> tag in the admin contains classes shared in most of the sites I checked:

    <body class="wp-admin wp-core-ui no-js admin-bar branch-4-9 version-4-9-7 locale-en-us no-customize-support no-svg">

Thanks again for working on this.

Thanks Hal, I think I missed that setting somewhere. I was using it in a sidebar widget. I have since opted to use another plugin. Thank you.

Also I have confirmed. Our theme does have wp_head() in the header.php and wp_footer() in the footer.php files respectively. No changes have been made to the theme recently.

In case anyone wants to still use the bookmarklet which allows you to activate the pinterest pin function manually here it is. Create a new bookmark and paste this in as the destination:

    javascript:void((function(){var e=document.createElement('script');e.setAttribute('type','text/javascript');e.setAttribute('charset','UTF-8');e.setAttribute('src','https://assets.pinterest.com/js/pinmarklet.js?r='+Math.random()*99999999);document.body.appendChild(e)})());

    The latest update from Pinterest:

Thanks for flagging this! For now, this is expected behavior because the Browser Extension is identifying all “pinnable” images on a webpage so if the editor is rendering your image, our Extension places the save hover button on it.

However, I’ve reported this to our engineers to take a look but unfortunately I don’t have a timeline for a fix.

Thanks for your patience and feedback in the meantime!

For now I recommend uninstalling the extensions and using the bookmarklet for your ‘Pins’.

Update: I submitted a ticket to Pinterest on 09/29/2017. They got back to me on 10/09/2017:

    Hi David,

This is something I haven’t seen before but I’d be happy to look into this for you. To do so, I’ll need a little more info:

The steps you took before running into trouble
The exact error message you’re seeing (if any)
    Screenshots of what you’re seeing
A link to the page where you’re having trouble
I’d appreciate any additional information about the problem you’re experiencing, so we can dig into it and find a solution.

This issue was reported to me by a client. I did not have the Pinterest Save Button extension installed in my prefered browser, Chrome (Mac). So I installed it and set about creating a page to reproduce the issue. I could not.

I did attempt to install the button in Safari too… but i found no Safari option other than a bookmarklet(?) Upon using the bookmarklet I found the option to ‘upgrade’ to the installable button.

If any of you can provide the above information for Leila, I’d be happy to serve as proxy.

I’ve reproduced it in Safari. Upon installing the extension, opening my test page to edit, the save button appeared over images in the editor as did the Save <span> appear in the [Text] tab.

*For those of you who wish to continue to use Pinterest in Safari, I would recommend the bookmarklet until the extension is fixed.

Good job on your resourcefulness! Thanks for the update!

Did you delete the injected HTML?

The Pinterest plugin adds it while editing. When you save the injected HTML becomes part of the post.

Removing the Pinterest plugin should prevent further incidence but you still need to remove what got added and saved.

That is odd. Honestly my first guess is that it was not WordPress but perhaps your host? Is there any other content reversion that would suggest it was a restore completed by your host?

Also FWIW – If you have a back-up containing a more recent revision restoring it would work for you.

    Good luck! ??

@nick_byrd, @petredobrescu, @fivejs and @valantis_c thank you for persisting in keeping posts to this thread. I was able to find the source of the same issue on my sites thanks to a search on a bit of the <span> and it’s attributes injected by Pinterest. In addition I found another post on another thread that was not so lucky. I’ve directed them here.
