  • Hi Mitchcon, can you ask you tech guy what lines he is talking about that he replaced and where are they so I can make the change?

I’m not sure there is a resolution because in some of the other threads the messages were from a year ago.

Since the makeshift changes worked for me for the bare minimum of my needs. I’m not going to mess around with trying to go in and fix code, that’s is not my ‘forte”. For future slideshows, I’m going to have to try a new slideshow plugin.

That Soliloquy Slideshow seems like it might work well, and it seems like it’s made by and organization that will be around a while

    https://soliloquywp.com/addons/css/

Other than that I got nothing, I don’t like trying to go up into wordpress an figure out code…….

Sorry we can’t be of more help. I wish the slideshow creator would at least respond. I guess he is not obligated to, and I suppose he could have just stopped supporting the plugin, but would be nice to just leave a note. Like I said for me, I don’t know a lot about how those CSS files really work, I think I just lucked out with where I changed mine (which was I think the CSS within the folder of the plugin, as opposed to the theme, but I honestly forgot). I think if yours didn’t work with the recommended CSS changes, more knowledge is needed in php coding and other stuff going on behind the scenes to know what to do. That’ why I hate those ad-hoc solutions to issues. As I mentioned previously, or in another thread on this subject, my slides work but some of the functionality is gone like the slideshow doesn’t loop anymore, in that when it gets to the last slide it stops. But since I have 37 slideshows out there, it works for me to leave it as as opposed to finding a new slideshow plug in and having to go back and re-code 37 slideshows.

Yeah you are mentioning some of the other nuances that my fingers got too tired to type more. In this or the other threads, some people said that fix gave them limitations. Though I’m “somewhat satisfied” that my slideshows are back up and running, I not sure if ever need to go back in and add any slides to past those post or make any future changes to them. Meaning, I don’t know what specific functionality might be affected by this ad-hod fix, or if it will break with the next version o WP or Portfolio Slideshow. So my base goal was just to get my old slideshows working, I’ll have to decide if I want to search for another slideshow plugin for future purposes.

I’m assuming these Plugin writers don’t work for profit, so I cut them a break, my only issue is its like when my car breaks down, I don’t know much about engines and don’t like being under the hood.

But at least with this experience, I’ve learned how to keep everything on my website updated. I hadn’t updated WordPress in nearly 2 years…….

When I got back onto my site today, my Portfolio Slideshows were working again.

However, I was previously having other problems with my site, so I had to upgrade to WordPress 4.6.1, as well as update my mySQL database version on my Network Solution’s database to MySQL version 5.6 from 5.0, I updated all my plugins. and updated settings in my /cgi-bin folder to “memory_limit = 256M”, “output_buffering = 2048”. Only mentioning all this to make the point that several things on my site were out of date, so when I made all those changes, who knows why my portfolio slideshow stopped working.

Based on another thread on this issue, I changed a CSS file pertaining to portfolio slideshow in my to say “visibility: visible”, whereas before it was “visibility: hidden”

in the CSS file it was previously…..

    .showloader .portfolio-slideshow, visibility: hidden;

(not sure why if it always said “hidden” all this time, why was the slideshows working for the past 4 years?)

Though I changed hidden to “visible”, I’ve already forgotten which CSS file I was in (I do know I was in the Portfolio Slideshow plugin folder, forgot where that was). So I guess I lucked out. The slideshow looks a little different, all photos are centered as opposed to left justified, but I’m satisfied with it from what I can see.

I guess I lucked out and changed the right CSS file, but I know nothing about those CSS files, so I guess I changed the right one

see more info on this solution at this thread

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/slide-show-stopped-appearing-on-page/#post-8324584

..since I have so many slideshows and its a pain to convert them all over to another plugin, I’m gonna stick with Portfolio Slideshow because it serve’s it’s purpose, and just hope nothing happens in the future a additional WordPress versions kick in.

…once again, sorry for writing in detail about this, but I sympathize with novices trying to get good detailed info in these threads

…though the problem with Soliloquy is it builds the slideshow as a separate group of files in the database and thus takes up space in my mySQL database (With my service provider, I have a 300Megabyte mySQL database, and a 300GIG storage space where I save all my photos and such, 2 separate things). So Soliloquy may not be the best solution for me. Portfolio slideshow did not require a separate storage of files in the mySQL database, it simply used the pictures I had stored in my 300 gig storage for my website’s photos. Sorry for writing a lot but this stuff can be confusing when you don’t know everything going under the hood, so I’m trying to write as though as I would want someone to write for me.

…so now I’m back to Withing Portfolio slideshow was working

no disrespect to the portfolio slideshow creator, not posting a nasty message here, because Portfolio Slideshow served it’s purpose for years. Put I needed something urgently as well and I had to start using Soliloquy, it worked very well on the first slideshow on my site

    Thanks for getting back.

If you find and answer let me know so I can fix my slideshows….

I am having an issue with this plugin. Was working perfectly for years and all of a sudden stopped. I have WP 4.6.1. I can see that the very first photo will flash on my slideshow screen very briefly (so fast you will miss if if not looking closely), though after that, there is a blank space

did you get a resolution to this?

This issue happened to me as well, when I upgraded to WP 4.6.1 . Can someone tell me pertaining to Andrew @cipes solution where is this CSS file he is speaking of?

Deactivated some of the features I didn’t need and now publishing works fine

It might be he Jetpack. When updated Jetpack, I couldn’t publish new posts. I can publish by temporarily deactivating jetpack and then publishing post, then reactivating.

No I didn’t see any messages, the file had been writable last week, not sure what happened. I’m too new to try to figure out what happened, but if it work now then it works………………

Solved it from a similar post from about a year ago. I loaded another them, then reloaded mine and it seems to work fine.
