I finally figured this out. In case anyone with the same problem stumbles across this post, here are the steps to fix this:

1. Login to the WordPress backend.
2. Select Settings from the navigation menu.
3. Under the section titled For each article in a feed, select the Full Text radio button to publish a full feed or Summary to publish a partial feed.

Turns out that this style has nothing to do with the problem and it only occurs in IE7 which came out in 1996. I don’t think I’m going to worry about optimizing for it.

Just to provide more information, it sounds like the spacing defaults back to what it was originally when you mouse over the links.

I temporarily removed the style that was suggested, since another IE user has verified that the problem is occurring. I’m not sure what to do about it, since I am a Mac user and I am unable to install IE on my computer… I do know something about HTML and CSS, so if anyone can point me to styles that I can try tweeking, maybe I can stumble upon a solution and get IE users that I know to test it. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, there is still a problem with the spacing between links. I am a Firefox user, and the change above fixed the spacing completely for me. However, an IE user who visited my site said that the links jump around on the page when you mouse over them. Any ideas how I can fix the additional problem?

Yes – that is helpful. I had already tried removing the following:

<div id=”submenu-bg”>
</div>

But, as you mention, there was still some space there since all this does is remove the styles. I couldn’t figure out how to remove the space itself. I will try to figure out which styles are setting the height so that I can change them and see if that fixes it.
