    In reply to: importing data

    Me too!

    I lost access to my WordPress site and couldn’t export the data in WXR format. I ftp’d the data to my computer to back up the files and cleaned them up (part of the reason I lost access was the intrusion of a virus). And I think I have all the files I need to go back up.

    I’ve reinstalled WordPress on my site, after having uninstalled it. And now I’m ready to import the files I downloaded. I’ve activated the Import plug-in on the site and have tried looking for the file in various of the options provided; but I can’t find any that will work.

    Can anyone help with this process?

    Saranthial,

    Thanks so much for the suggestion. I’ll give it a try.

    Just discovered that the site is no longer accessible. Perhaps the host took it off the system because of the spamming activity.

    @tomleveen,

    Login to mysql, check how many databases do you have. Check which one is linked. If the proper one is not linked. You have to link that by changing your wp-config.php

    Kindly create separate thread for yours.

    Tom, thanks for the help. I have three wordpress folders on the site (wordpress, wordpress2 and wordpress3). The first of these is the one that has been operable until recently. I can use Filemaker Pro to look at the site and see all the files there. But I don’t know how to do what you suggest here.

    I’m afraid I don’t know how to find out what version I’m running, either. (I’m a novice, when it comes to WordPress and the web hosting issues.) However, it’s been a long time since I tried to access it and Earthlink tells me that it was installed using a 3rd party installer. However, I know that I installed it some years back using the installer on the Earthlink site. Earthlink support tells me they won’t support the issue because it wasn’t their installer; but I doubt if the Earthlink techs I spoke to were even around, back when I installed it. I do know I was asked to upgrade it several times in the past and didn’t do it because I had had a bad experience doing so at one point.

    I’m looking at MySQL Manager on the site now and can see four databases. I’ve deleted all but one.

    I’m trying to create a new thread; but having a problem doing it. The topic will be “Lost access to login page.”

    I have lost my ability to log in to my login page. When I bring up https://www.financialiteracy.us/wordpress/wp-login.php, which was what used to enable me to reach my dashboard, it would ask for my username and password. Now I get nothing. The page appears to be present on my site; but it will not load.
