In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullyOK, got the website to show up at the test domain (www.curiousitycrossroads.com) but links to other pages on the site aren’t working, just the homepage shows up.
My friend suggested editing the config files to make sure the path references don’t have extra unnecessary stuff in them?Well, I have good news. I’m not sure what changed (or if something I changed 2 days ago just took a long time to take effect) but my sharing buttons have returned as they were before I installed the security plugin.
Thanks for your help!

In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullythere is no index.htm (unless for some reason it is not visible in filezilla, but readme.html is so that wouldn’t make sense)
as for question 2 – there is 1 or 2 other people on the server, but we each have our own separate subdirectories. For instance, mine is me.servername.net and my blog is installed at me.servername.net/wp
the server is mainly for file storage, but I got my friend to do the 1 click install for me. The PHP has to be working because I can access the backend and even view the website from the actual server address, but pointing a domain there isn’t working. apparently dreamhost is not making the connection that my domain and my server are supposed to be linked.

In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullyThere is no index.htm/l in any of the main directories, there are only index.php files. I re-instated the one I deleted.
In fact, the only .html file in the main directory is the readme.html file.
The one-click install was already done, like a week ago. I’ve built the site, added plugins, it’s all ready to be unveiled, I just need to figure out how to get the site I’ve built to show up when my domain gets typed. Don’t know what’s preventing that at this point.

In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullyI’ve been suggested be a friend on FB to check my DNS settings. I don’t really know my footing in that area so I’m posting the screenshot here incase someone who knows it better can tell me if something needs to be changed…

In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullyI deleted index.php from the root directory a few minutes ago, still not getting anything :/
Any other ideas?

In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullySo, my friend pointed the domain to my server space, and now I am getting a holding page from dreamhost. I’ve manually set both home and site urls to the domain on the WP side which doesn’t seem to matter.
Is this the point where I should download and install a domain mapping plugin?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullyI did some more googling and found that apparently I need to go into the dreamhost cpanel for my site and manually point that to the domain…

I’m not doing multi-site mapping but the core issue sounds the same (wordpress site isn’t showing up at the domain like it’s supposed to)
so I emailed my friend that info and now I wait.

In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullywould it be a matter of the first whois database just taking a while to update?
I just called godaddy and yes, they are telling me I have to talk to dreamhost. Drat.
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullyI thought you said in godaddy’s whois records it was pointing to dreamhost? I changed it last night around 7pm or so (roughly 12 hours ago), so the godaddy portion should be fine.
OK, I will call godaddy first. I just emailed my friend with a heads up that I might have to call dreamhost.
Thanks for helping me through this!

In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullyI can try calling Dreamhost, but I don’t actually have access to the cpanel or anything like that for my server. I am piggybacking on my friend’s server and my friend has all the admin access. I typically just login through FTP to my directory and upload what I need to upload. My friend did the one-click install for me, so if I call dreamhost and they tell me to change any settings, I don’t think I can.. only in wordpress anyway.
This is under “Settings > Sharing”:

There isn’t much there… Is that what you are looking for?

In reply to: problems pointing domain to wordpress successfullyI’m still getting a “server not found” error in both firefox and chrome ?? something is still missing and I don’t know what.
I am now looking into plugins that do domain mapping (because I can’t even find the option to buy the upgrade that I’ve been reading about all evening). I can’t believe this one step has totally sidelined me for an entire day. My site would have been live this morning if this step was not so bloody complicated. I’ve just been brutally scared of breaking anything or locking myself out (because I’ve done both before even launching officially), so I was trying to do this with as few settings changes as possible.
