Oh gosh, I figured it out. Some of my old posts had a manual excerpt added and I didn’t see it because I’m still not used to the new editor! Argh.

When I remove the manual excerpt, it all works as expected.

I would recommend you use a Columns section for this kind of display. The Columns section does not set the height, so large amounts of text will not be cut off in mobile.

Unfortunately this isn’t possible without creating a child theme for Make.

You’ll either need to alter the H1 settings so the text is smaller (and thus displays smaller on mobile), or add some custom css to your child theme in the form of media queries to display a different size on mobile.

You might have better luck renaming the child theme folders… If you ever add Make Plus it will look for the Make theme by name.
