Have found the cause and a partial solution to this. Any plug-in expert who can advise me on how to solve the problem either through the plug-in or via modifications to my templates?

    Found the culprit. The plug-in script is supposed to insert code for a hidden map: <div id="test_map" style="display:none" ></div>. From what I understand from the plug-in’s php script, this is achieved via a function called thickboxmap_div, and that function is added by this line add_action('loop_end', 'thickboxmap_div');

Somehow the plug-in adds in the code on the pages generated on index.php but not for the singlepost.php pages. I am not sure whether if there are problems with loop syntax in the singlepost.php pages but they have been working well previously.

My temporary solution is to add the test_map code by hand into the template for singlepost.php. I don’t think that has affected any functionality blog-wise (in fact, it has solved the problem that I set out to solve initially) although it is not the most elegant solution.

Anyone with ideas to solve the problem via modification to the underlying code?

In reply to: 2.9 my story.

My experience (after the previous nightmare that was upgrading from 2.7 to 2.8)…

Upgrading five blogs on the same host from 2.8.6 to 2.9. Four went ahead without a hitch. On the last one, I got a 500 Internal Server error message from the webhosting service.

Tried to get back in… kept gettting a maintenance message. Decided to upgrade manually. Worked without a cinch except for a message saying that the previous automated update did not complete (even though I was already using 2.9!). Eventually got rid of the message by doing an automated reinstall.

Total time taken: 3 hours (including time taken to backup my databases prior to pressing the button). Not too bad considering the few days my sites were down when I did the last big upgrade from 2.7 to 2.8 ??

I went through the same anguish when I updated from 2.7 to 2.8. My webserver got corrupted. Even in the directories where my blog files weren’t residing on. Hence the importance of backing up — although that is in itself, another pain.

I’m holding back on my blogs now before upgrading to 2.9. Waiting for 2.9.1 might be a good idea, too! ??

Same here. I am on Yahoo webhosting. Lost the files for a 2 or 3 blogs but surprisingly a few others were spared. The auto-upgrade also knocked out my subdomains and wrecked my access to Yahoo webhosting’s Control Panel. After a couple of sleepless nights and long-distance phone calls to technical support, I managed to reset my control panel and restored files from a snapshot backup that was done prior to the upgrade.

I am holding back from doing an upgrade now till more reports come in.

MichaelH: Unfortunately I got complacent after the previous automatic upgrade from 2.7 to 2.7.1 worked without a hitch. Have made a backup immediately after I got my files back. Am waiting for more reports before I attempt the upgrade again ??

luckily one of the support staff I spoke to managed to restore my account based on a snapshot of it prior to the upgrade.

I’m back to 2.7.1 for now and very, very relieved that my 5 years of work is still preserved. Not going to upgrade to 2.8 for now till I hear better experiences. If only can I disable that “Update to 2.8” button and reminder!

Which web hosting service are you on? I tried doing auto-update on my yahoo webhosting account and lost at least 50% of the files I had on the server (including those residing in other non-Wordpress directories). I was also locked out of the admin control panel of my webhost and lost all my subdomain customizations. Yahoo tech support managed to restore my account to a previous snapshot but only after much frustration and haggling.

I am hesitating with doing the upgrade again…

Mercime: the link you posted does not have a solution for my problems. I’m talking about a 2.8 upgrade in a folder affecting other wordpress blogs in other folders. Sounds like a remote possibility, but it happened, at least on my webhost.

I upgraded one blog yesterday with no problems.

I tried upgrading my second blog today… Disaster! (and I should have backed-up too). Not only are my blog directories gone from my server, my subdomains have been screwed up, I can’t access my webhosting control panel, no phpAdmin to log into as well… short of a few non-wordpress directories on my server, everything seemed to have disappeared into oblivion!

I’m using Yahoo webhosting… Just gave them a call (had to use Skype phone to save on connection charges). They are trying to fix it but I’m not too hopeful ??

OK. I spoke too soon. Just checked my mail:

No ETA for the problem????! This is the second time in less than 6 months that I am getting this problem. If they don’t solve it soon, looks like I’ll be ditching Yahoo webhosting.

It’s Tuesday here. My site was working well as Ibadairon mentioned for the whole of yesterday. However, I am starting to get the same error again, albeit intermittently. Not a whimper from the goons at Yahoo. Wonder what’s happening again…

I am getting the same errors here on my sites:

    https://www.elcreations.org/engloy/photoblog/
    https://www.elcreations.org/lipsengtan/photoblog/

These have been working fine for months and I have not made any configuration changes. It seems that the Yahoo SQL servers may be down. I tried to access the databases direct through phpadmin. Even that gives me an error message: #2003 – The server is not responding.

I have emailed Yahoo! support, but I wouldn’t expect too much of a speedy reply given their previous track record: see https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/72286?replies=68

Hope their support is monitoring these forums.

Arrgh… after a brief respite of about 30 mins, the error is back to haunt my blogs again. Same goes for christoball’s page. *shakes fist at yahoo*. Just what is wrong with them?
