In reply to: [Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)]A spark of hope… I just checked my blogs and it’s back working normally. Took a look at christoball’s blog at https://tf2.org/blog/ and that seems to be working fine. No luck with thenoisedotus’ and gilchrist-electric’s blogs. How are the others doing?

In reply to: [Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)]OK… I am at the brink of switching webhost due to the incompetency of Yahoo webhosting. Anyone has any pointers to tips of switching webhosts? I have backed up the database tables of my current blogs. How do I install a new copy of WordPress on my webhost and move my database across?

In reply to: [Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)]No further news from Flavio so far. I wonder what’s going on with Yahoo. Will write to DreamHost later to enquire about their services and how to go about transferring my current domain. If I do not hear from Yahoo or get a solution soon, it’s bye-bye Yahoo and hello DreamHost for me.

In reply to: [Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)]gilchrist-electric: Hmm… My phpAdmin also shows the same error with the Privilleges. I am hoping what you stumbled upon might be the key to the solution. I am still waiting for this Flavio to respond. Perhaps he is bombarded by all our emails now at the moment ??
christoball/thenoisedotus: I certainly hope that they can solve our problems soon. The offer/pricing from DreamHost looks good and I am seriously considering jumping ship. The only hassle is that I’d probably have to request for a transfer of my current domain over to the new host and I am not sure how to actually do that.

In reply to: [Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)]gilchrist-electric: I got a reply from the same guy, Flavio. I have no other choice but to supply them with my username and password to see whether if they can solve the problem. I supposed when they are done, I can easily change the password back. I also wrote to Flavio (with a copy sent to their Corporate Secretary) this:
Hi Flavio,
I have just got a response from the developer of WordPress, Matthew Mullenweg.
The problem seems to be “clearly a host MySQL issue” : https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/72286?replies=31#post-378644
You might want to look into that. In addition, from I understand, www.ads-software.com has taken Yahoo! off their recommended webhosts page until you guys can solve the problem out.
I frankly hope that this can be resolved as soon as possible as the downtime is causing me considerable distress. I am already in the process of looking at better offers from other webhosting services. If Yahoo! is unable to solve the problem soon, I might just consider giving the usage of your services altogether. I gather that I am not alone in this respect since many other users of WordPress / Yahoo webhosting has indicated similar intentions.
Hope to see a solution from you soon.
Thank you and regards.
Eng Loy
Hope that will cause some action to be done soon.

In reply to: [Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)]Just got a reply from [email protected]:
Hello Eng Loy,Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Web Hosting. Thank you for contacting us once again.
I understand that you get the following error message “Can’t
create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)”.Please ensure that there is a “tmp” sub directory in the root directory
with proper permissions. The permissions can be set up using a FTP
client.WordPress is a free open-source utility that Yahoo! has made available
through your Web Hosting Control Panel as a service to you.Unfortunately, we do not offer any technical support or a warranty with
the WordPress software. However, we’ll help you install WordPress on
your site, and provide the technical infrastructure you need to run
WordPress (PHP and MySQL).Tried the suggestion. Had trouble setting the file permissions but I think the file permissions should be correct (I did a check with ftp and the necessary directories were set to drwxrwxr-x). Still no luck! How are the others faring?
I am getting impatient with my blog being down and Yahoo! not being able to provide solutions except for the diplomatic “we do not offer any technical support or a warranty with the WordPress software”. I think www.ads-software.com should drop their promotion of Yahoo webhosting as a preferred partner if this goes on.

In reply to: [Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)]Still no email from Y!’s technical support! I have included the links to this post as well as https://www.www.ads-software.com/support/topic/40238?replies=12 in my email to them earlier.
thenoisedotus: That sounds like a good idea to squeeze a free month’s worth of service out of them ?? Maybe we should band together and send a complaint to the yahoo vps ??
I also tried sending a email to [email protected] to ask for their help. According to what is written on https://www.ads-software.com/hosting/
“We’re (www.ads-software.com) committed to helping create a wholesome and hassle-free WordPress hosting environment. If you feel there are issues with one of the hosts listed here (Yahoo is listed first among them), please send a note to [email protected]. If the situation warrants we’ll work with you and the hoster on a solution.”

In reply to: [Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)]christoball: Did you get an email reply from them? I haven’t got any so far. Even Y!’s own installation of WordPress (see https://www.ads-software.com/hosting/) doesn’t work for me. I can only assume that its a server misconfiguration. I have written in my email to them that I will drop their webhosting service if they are unable to solve the problem. Anyone else has recommendations for a better webhosting service? ??

In reply to: [Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)]Looks like I spoke too soon. The problem is back! The same message again. Are the yahoo webhosting people tweaking with the settings or what? Yet to get a reply from their web support team and phone calls to the US from Singapore aren’t exactly that cheap too!

In reply to: [Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/tmp/#sql_5d6a_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 2)]thenoisedotus: When was the last time you contacted the Yahoo team? Wonder whether if I will get any luck with them.
I did a search on the WordPress support forums and this link came up: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/40238?replies=12
I wonder if the Yahoo web support will be willing to take a look at that.
