  • Oh nuts – my memory got me again. It is the wp-config.php file I modified. Sorry about that.

    I did create a wildcard *.domain.com (domain being my domain name) in public_html. The result was the same – inside WordPress it looked great, but in cPanel, no action.

    I talked with my hosting company. The sales end, if they understood what I was saying correctly, said multisite would work. Tech said this morning that they do not support multisite.

    So they sent me info on two kinds of changes to make, and I’ve made them. One change is pointing the domain name to the right server – up to a 6 hour wait for it to propagate . . .

    I’m going to copy what it said to do:

    Creating a Subdomain
    1. Log into the HostMonster Control Panel
    2. Click the Sub Domains icon in the Domains section.
    3. Enter the desired subdomain
    4. Choose one of your Domain Names from the drop-down list
    5. Enter the Document Root
    6. Click Create

    How to change a DNS Entry
    Creating new records is easy. Here’s a brief example of how this is done:
    1. Log into the cPanel at https://www.HostMonster.com or login.HostMonster.com.
    2. Select the “DNS Zone Editor” icon in the “Domains” section.
    3. Select the domain you’re modifying from the drop-down box.
    4. Scroll down to the heading named “Add DNS Record”
    o In the “Host Record” field, enter the desired record name
    o Leave the “TTL” field at it’s default setting
    o Select the proper entry type for your application, from the drop-down labeled “Type”
    o In the “Points To” field, enter the address that the record should resolve to.
    o Other fields may appear depending on the type of record you are creating.
    5. Click on the”Add Record” button to create the record

    So I’m waiting.

    I am having trouble with multisite creation also. I have put the correct html in both .htaccess and config.sys – and check it several time. When I create a site, it looks as if the site is there (under the ALL SITES tab. However, in every case if I try to see the site itself or the dashboard I get a SERVER NOT FOUND message. I’ve looked in cPanel and there are no subdomains in the folder where subdomains are supposed to show up.

    Is there anything that can interfere with the creation of the actual subdomain on my hosting site?
