YOu are probably right – i haven’t installed. Stupid question but once i have downloaded wordpress to my pc – how do i actually install it? I can’t find an .exe in any of the folders.

I copied the link to my browser, hit enter and it asked for a username and password. I know that the username is ‘admin’ but i have no idea what the password is. Everything i read says ‘note the password displayed’ but where was it/is it displayed? I can’t find a password ?? So i don’t get any further

Hi thanks for this but it won’t work as i can’t get on to the login page to then reset the password. I am not this far in. I haven’t even seen a login page yet ??

I have extracted all files, changed the config doc, loaded everything to my FTP server (via Filezilla) and then when i copy the wp-admin.install.php into the brower i am forced to enter a username and password to proceed so i don’t appear to be able to get to a ‘login page’ to reset a password. When you say the password should have been displayed when i installed WP – where should it be displayed?

Thanks apljdi – i have managed (after three hours!) to figure this part out but now when paste the ‘install.php’ url into the browser a small pop up box appears and asks for a username and password. I am assuming this is the FTP username and password? I enter this only to be asked if i want to save the ‘install.php’file and whether you click ‘save’ or ‘open’ nothing happens after this. I have no idea what i am doing wrong but i am guessing it is something to do with the username and password i need to enter – any ideas?
