In reply to: [ABASE] wordpress variable into SQL querySorry if it feels like spamming, but this is another approach that would interest me.

In reply to: [ABASE] Create SQL string from URL ParametersWould like to do that as well. Or some other way of using data from the context. At the moment, as far as I can see, it’s going to require a custom programming solution. I’m pretty sure that the ability to use variables from the context would be a fairly useful development.

In reply to: Trackback spam – oh no, not again!Actually, I tried using akismet, but the authorisation code I got from WordPress didn’t work. I wasted several hours wrestling with it before giving up.
Since I don’t have a problem with comments, only trackbacks – can akismet inhibit trackback spam? I understood that it didn’t, which was one of the reasons for not chasing it more eagerly.

Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: wordpress as a forum?I’ve got xdforum Plugin running on a server wordpress I’ve set up – not complex, but does what I was looking for. Here’s a link – you’ll have to register before you can see it – I won’t kick you off if you don’t put spam on my site!!
With all due respect to those people who want to keep WP as blogging software, the fact is that with vast plugin support, built-in registration, abstraction of much of the coding, big theme support, WP makes a very suitable CMS … if you can just tweak it here and there … a little … bit …

In reply to: Photopress not working with EllaMine’s 0.94 and seems to be running okay, except for the lack of upload button on the WYSIWYG editor, and there are other problems there anyway.
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: WYSIWYG Not Working?I’d also say that the visual editor works an awful lot better under IE than under Mozilla – where the tabs are incredibly slow. Is this to do with lack of JavaScript support outside Microsoft, perhaps? If so, can I suggest an early move away from JavaScript?!

In reply to: Photopress not working with EllaDunno if I’m using the same version, but PhotoPress is working – the galleries are still there – what isn’t present is the link for uploading in the Post and Page edit tool bar. In the Manage/PhotoPress menu the Upload option is still available.
Does this help?

In reply to: EzStatic PluginCan’t see how to do this, and wanted to know if it had already been documented or established as impossible.
A link like…
https://www.blah.com/sc/index.php?static=vt&table=1
doesn’t apparently work, in the sense that the variable $table isn’t readable by the code in the vt.php file. (vt.php appears just nicely, though!)Am I just expecting too much? Or is there a way of making the variable accessible?

In reply to: users logged in mywebsite should get logged in my blog alsoFor clarification … is the website a mature one (with lots of members) to which you are adding a blog? And are we talking about tens of members, or thousands?

In reply to: Lots of user registrations with @gawab.com email addyWell, I got your message okay. I’ll go and censor it in a moment.
Sorry, but
a) there were about 10 people asking for the same thing
b) most didn’t seem to realise that other people were asking the same question, and
c) none of the responses dealt with the problem.I only posted on those threads which were SPECIFICALLY looking for the solution that I wrote. I’ve posted the solution on the www.ads-software.com suggestions board – but I dunno how many people will find it there. And the reason for posting on each thread is that if people are being notified about replies to their own thread by email, then they’ll each be able to see what the fix is.
Sorry if you are subscribed to all the threads and got 10 nearly identical posts – but I’ve little doubt that you’d be able to sort this problem out for yourself anyway.
I don’t want or need the traffic – I’m not selling anything, I have got adsense ads, but I’ve lost the details for the account anyway (!) – there isn’t even the place to pay me if you find my fix the most useful thing since sliced bread! I don’t have a plugin so I won’t be glorified that way, either. I am just offering a relatively easy fix to a widely-shared problem that hasn’t been addressed anywhere else to my knowledge.
So chill out yourself.

In reply to: Visual ConfirmationThis change to wp-register.php provides visual confirmation, to try and prevent automated registrations.

In reply to: Lots of user registrations with @gawab.com email addyHere’s another way of stopping spam registrations. I feel a bit like a spambot myself, trying to put this on all the threads where people have asked about it….

In reply to: Validate User RegistrationThis is a modification that you can make to wp-register.php that should prevent automated registrations – by changing the default behaviour and requiring a response. Sorry, I don’t have the technical ability to make it into a plugin.
