I wonder how you managed to do that. When you look at the source then you got three parameters for that (native PHP) function. While the third parameter was only added with PHP 5.4, it should not matter and your PHP version seems to be (please verify that) already 5.4+. Could you please shed some lights into that issue by providing additional detail?

That’s ok. Just tell your hoster that they should upgrade what they provide.

You can do it without an unmaintained and unsecure PHP version as well. You do update your WordPress, right? ??

Seems we used a PHP v5.4 argument there. @EliasNS, you should update to 5.4 anyway (or poke your hoster to do it) as lower versions are already without support and considered unsecure as they don’t receive any security updates anymore. See the PHP End-Of-Life list – it’s dead since 6 month.

Where is the <i></i> coming from?

This could likely be a JavaScript error. Please open your console by hitting Ctrl + Shift + I (or F12 in some browsers) and copy/paste the error you might find there into a support request. Thanks.

I tried adding LOADS more capabilities

…LOADS, even when written in all upper caps, is no proper description of what you have tried as it’s impossible to reproduce your steps.

There is exactly one capability check (see source) in the is_allowed() method that only runs during the AJAX request. It checks for edit_theme_options.

You will have to take a look at core to see why your authors can’t do that. I assume the problem will arise with pretty much every plugin that adds content at the nav menu.

Well, a flag does represent a country or nation and does not really represent a language. The only thing it would represent is maybe the main language spoken in a country. Sorry, but we have to dismiss this feature request.

sorry, but we are not going to add any “plugin support” into this plugin by now. There are 30k+ plugins only in the wp.org repository and plenty more on GitHub. And for each plugin where we add “support”, we increase the time needed for maintenance as we would need to monitor each update of the “supported” plugin. I set supported in quotes as things like this would not be necessary if plugins like WPML, ACF, etc. would simply stick with how core works – which they don’t. When you look at our WCM User Language Switcher plugin, then you will find out that it’s easy to stay in line with how core works with a translation plugin.

In short: WPML could be written in way that it integrates with core and therefore with each plugin that just sticks to core without introducing “golden cage”-level special functionality. We will not be supporting that, neither now nor in the future.

The best recommendation I can give you is to switch to Multilingual Press by Inspyde as this plugin sticks with core functionality where ever possible.

Those are the official bibliographical language codes, defined in the ISO 639 1 & 2. You should not change those values.
