  • Rats. Facebook is good when I update from my e-mail, but WordPress isn’t responding. I am going to have to make that work…after all it’s my blog that I am trying to get out there. Getting late and I have to go to work now. More later.

Thank you so much for your hard work. I made it come back with the addition of your two helpful suggestions. That is the raw attempt, now to try to figure out how to put in pictures so they appear with the message and also formatted correctly (with text wrap, sized and such).

This is actually a lot more useful than just having WordPress be the focal point for blogging and sending out to the other social media. Why? Because I have an iPhone and the WordPress app does not work. So I can’t send blogs or posts to my social media from my iPhone. However, now that it is done with e-mail, I can add to my blogs and posts anytime I want without a problem. Es mas facil. !Gracias!

Las personas de seesmic son bichos en eso. !Muchas gracias, Sr. Aguilera, uno ves mas!

I found the other topic, seems I am not the only one and so I consider this topic a dead issue. Watching the other one.

Oh, I just found this post and it explains my problem. I will bookmark this one and try to get rid of my post I just made and watch this one carefully. !Thanks!

Looked all over my site and Ping.fm and just about every place else I could think of to see if I could get a looks at the error message which should have been stored in the custom fields of the post. No luck. I had none because there weren’t any generated. Why? Because Facebook had decided to unhook itself from ping! Once I reestablished the connection between Facebook and ping, I could post again with shorten2ping with no problems. I did see where an error message would have been if there had been one (in the custom fields section of the post).

?Uno ves mas, muchas gracias Sr. Aguilera!

Well, darn. Now I am having trouble again. My posts are not showing in Facebook any more. I was also told that they didn’t have good links now in Twitter. This just started happening on 2/27. Any ideas? I have tried to use it with Ping.fm chosen and “both” chosen.

My solution was to get sorten2Ping from Aguilera and install it. That guided me through the entire maze of things I had to do. Just do try it without any of the other shorteners out there, (set shortener to None) otherwise your blog might not shorten. Also, be sure to think up snappy titles as they will show up and be all of your message in default mode.

Dear Dobner and others, I found out what the problem was. By going to Ping.fm and carefully reading what the instructions were, I realized that Ping shortens the URL automatically all by themselves. That’s right, you don’t need to sign up for Bit.ly or any of the others if you are going through Ping.fm.

So, if you are using Shorten2Ping and you are not getting your URL’s to show up, go back and take off the setting to shorten the permalinks with any other service, set that to “Nothing” and then give it a try. I think you will find that Ping.fm will shorten them all by itself.

Putting one other shortening service in there (like Bit.ly) just sort of countermands the way that Ping operates and so the link doesn’t show up at all.

This worked for me, I hope it works for you. Shorten2Ping is a great plug in. ?Muchas gracias, Sr. Aguilera!

I did the usual and it worked:

    • Change to default theme
    • Disable all of the plug ins
    • Enable them again one by one
    • See where the mechanism breaks down and eliminate that plug in
    • Turn on the Screen Option—>Enable Accessibility
    • Look for a plug in which does the same as the one you deleted (thank goodness there are lots out there)
    • Install compatible plug in and make double sure it works
    • Enjoy

I think that the Analyticator was doing some bad things in my set up and so I had to wish it goodbye. Oh well, there are a lot more out there.

I tried this and in my case it didn’t work. I did see another person with a problem along these same lines and I did the old trick of disabling all plug ins and added them back one by one until I hit the problem. It was Google Analyiticator in my case. I deleted it and everything worked well. Then I went back and took off the code from wp-config.php to keep things tidy. But thanks for the thought. Who knows, I might need that later.

I am going to try this one. I have the same problem, using the latest WordPress and have tried all of my usual tricks to make the screen options and help function work on the widgets page. No dice. Tried to change the theme from Atahualpa to a default, no dice. There is no column on the right to drag the widgets, and of course the widgets cannot be picked up to move anywhere. I am not even sure that there are any widgets showing, just the headers. And the headers will not offer me a drop down but the cursor does turn from an arrow to arrows pointing in 4 directions when it is rolled over the headers.

I hope your fix works for that problem.

A hot tip for anyone who is down this far: I was getting a few mysterious problems (could not add pages, could not edit pages I had added, and more). I changed the theme from Atahualpa to the blue default, then I could make changes just fine. Then I changed back to Atahualpa and the changes stayed and it looked great. I could add pages, edit pages and more. So, if you are having problems try switching to the default theme and making your edits then go back to your fancy theme. It may work for you.

The self help desk came to the rescue. When I unzipped the file, I was asked it I wanted to see the unzipped files, I said yes and somehow managed to put the file si-contact into another folder named si-contact. In effect, the file was double wrapped. Because the name of the file was the same, and looked the same as the one inside, I didn’t notice there was anything wrong. I loaded it up and of course it wouldn’t work because it was double wrapped. WordPress looked inside the folder only to find another folder named the same thing and no files to install. Then it stopped.

So, I just have to be careful about how I download, open, and then upload folders from my desktop. I don’t understand why it wouldn’t upload as a zipped file from my desktop but for now at least I can recognize files and plugins and install them.

If anyone else is having the same problem: try using your password to the blog you claimed at wordpress.com. So if your blog hosted by wordpress is myblog.wordpress.com try using that password and it might well work with Ping.fm. That worked for me.
