I edited the SiteURL in the wp-config.php file and achieved redirection to the root directory of the web server. Unfortunately, although I was able to access the site, the site formatting was lost. I then deleted the “define(‘WP_SITEURL’,’…); line from the wp-config.php file. After doing this I was unable to connect to the wordpress application on the server.
I’m making some progress and hope to solve this soon. I appreciate all of your comments and support.

Thanks for the suggestions. The references you directed me to should have solved my problem. However WordPress does not allow me to edit the SiteURL field in the Settings-General section. Any idea why I’m being blocked? I sign in as wordpress administrator.
