How can I make my own widget area in the header using php?

I would like to include a visual ‘subscription box without having a side bar (I like my site full width) and having in the footer just isn’t visual enough as friend and family want to follow my blog but complain they can’t find the sign up button.

Any suggestions?

Thank you so much, my confusion over custom css and child themes make sense now! Trouble is I’ve already edited a lot of the theme’s css and can’t remember what exactly ooops!

Anyway,

I’ve added the code to the custom css (jetpack) and the slider font is now bigger but the menu font has remained the same size – see felicitymacintosh.com

Any suggestions?

Is this not even possible by editing the html/css?

Thanks for your reply.

I understand about sticky posts, I’ve been using them for years on my other blog. They are great but as I have over 100 posts, over 500 on my other blog, I end up having the title/summary of all of these on the front page which after a while, slows it down and makes it look too messy. I only want the latest five sticky posts to show on the fromt page.
