To elaborate for anyone else who may have this problem:

I am using the “jonradio multiple themes” plugin to allow a secondary theme to display the stories because this plugin is NOT compatible with Kleo. I had to do quite some looking to find a free theme that was both compatible and that worked well with my content/sidebars/etc. If I can find something better, I still may change it. I haven’t found a theme yet that both has two menus and will allow navigation to multiple pages of the stories (suggestions welcome if anyone knows of one!).

There are other issues which are not yet resolved, but I am hopeful.

Support has been pretty good/helpful overall.

I have also tested this with the Twenty Fifteen theme, and the same behavior occurs. Also, if you capture the specific URL it tries to direct to when you open a notification in another tab, and copy/paste it into your web browser, it will take you to the front page.

A few of my users have reported the “do not have permission” message though I have yet to get that myself.

Has anyone else had experience with fixing this or with a different plugin does a similar thing?

I don’t know if this helps or not, but I have noticed that if you try to open the notification in another window/tab, it does try to pull it up. I can see it in the URL. However, it will sit and spin and think about it for several seconds before then loading whatever page you were viewing when you clicked the notification.

It does seem to clear for messages and any other notification that was present without the Activity Comment Notifier plugin. It’s activity comments that don’t clear without hitting the “mark all read” button.

However, the “Live Notifications” thing isn’t directing users to the activities in question all the time. Notifications for new messages and friend requests do seem to take you to the correct place, but nothing else really does.

If you have a “member a and b commented on your post” notification or a “member a likes your activity on” or “member a favorited your post” notification, when you click on it, it just refreshes the current page. If you go to your notifications tab on your profile and look there, click on it again, it still just refreshes your notification page.

I’m not sure how to tell you to reproduce it. I’m not very tech savvy. Would screen shots or giving you access to my site help?

Oh wow, thank you for the extremely speedy reply!

Based on your reply, I uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin just to see what would happen. . . and it seems to work now. Guess I should have tried that first Kleo is pulling the notifications (or at least it has pulled a couple).

However, there is an issue: When you click on the notification, instead of being taken to that thread/comment, it appears to just refresh whatever page you are viewing at the time. Especially if you have more than one notification or a notification is from a thread that’s farther down the stream, it makes it difficult to locate it. Is there any way to change or fix that?

A member reported to me that if he tries to open the notification in a new tab, he gets a message saying he doesn’t have permission to do this. That has not happened to me yet.

It also doesn’t clear the notification, so you do have to click the “mark all as read” button (somewhat minor but not as ideal as possible).
