In reply to: A beginner’s question about theme/designAs long as you have a decent working knowledge of CSS and XHTML (quite similar to HTML) you should be able to incorporate the “blogging technology” quite easily. However, you might find it easier to modify an existing theme to look how you want it to. By using the same colour scheme, images and logos as your old pages, you can make it look almost the same, without having to learn the intricacies of how to build a theme.

In reply to: query_posts offsetI’m looking for an answer to a similar question, so I thought I’d post here instead of starting a new thread.
I’d like to split my loop into two divs, with 3 posts in each div. I have acheived this by using query_posts for the first loop and get_posts (which has an offset parameter) for the second. However, I would also like to exclude a certain category from both these loops, but get_posts doesn’t offer that option.
Basically, what I’m asking is, is there a way to offset a query_posts loop by 3, so I can use 2 query_post loops instead of 1 query_posts and one get_posts?
I’m a noob to most of this stuff, so if I’m being stupid, or if this has already been answered above (I don’t think it has), please be gentle.

In reply to: Adding my photo to my blogscould not find a way to over-ride the need for a “title” in WordPress
The way to do this is to access the ‘style.css’ file, also to be found in the wp-contents/themes/default folder. Michael Heilemann, the maker of the default theme, suggests that you add the value “display: none;” inside the { } brackets following the entries for “H1” and “.description”

In reply to: please kill my blog!!!Well, I think it’s a bit dull – but that’s just me. It’s a case of personal opinion. Lots of people like less obtrusive colours, but I like a bit of brightness. In terms of layout, though, it’s pretty good.

In reply to: My New DesignYes, that’s because the IE “max-width” fix I used evidently doesn’t work on IE Mac. Anyone got any comments on the design? I would really appreciate some constructive criticism.

In reply to: IfElse redesigned: Black Goldvery nice. I love how the current post sits in the black section, and recent entries sit in the gold area. Afraid I can’t offer any Safari help, but suffice to say it looks awesome in FF!!
However, I’m not too sure about the change of colour of the text in the ‘shorts’ sidebar on mouseover. On the other hand, it does mean focus is drawn away from the shorts until it is required. Oh, what the hell, great job!

In reply to: Reviews and OpinionsIt’s really nice, very clean. I like the sidebar especially. How are the “elsewhere” links powered? Is it through a del.icio.us plugin?
