In reply to: [WP Mobile Detector] Nothing happen! What is the name of the plugin you are referring to? There are 15,000 in the repository, so it’s hard to know which one is giving you problems. ??

In reply to: Changing the blog designation in the URLCan you change the permalink on the blog page (which I assume is set in Settings to be the posts page) to say ‘/portfolio’ instead? Just go to Dashboard>All Pages> and click on the ‘blog’ page to change it’s permalink on the resulting Edit Page page. It’s located just below the field where you add the page title.
Don’t forget to use a redirection plugin to make sure that anyone who has the old link gets properly sent to the new home of your blog.

In reply to: Can I use WordPress with blogger domain?Yes, you can use that domain. When you purchased it from Google, you were probably given some kind of username and login info to manage the settings for your Domain.
You will have to purchase hosting for your new WordPress site first, and then you will have to take your hosts nameserver information and update those settings in Google, where you purchased the domain. This is called a DNS change, and it basically “points” web traffic from it’s old home on Blogger to it’s new home on WordPress.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] White Screen of Death on ActivationWhat is the name of the plugin that’s causing the problem?
My first suggestion is, can you find a plugin by a different author, that offers the same functionality? It’s often easier to find an alternative that works than to fix something that’s broken.

In reply to: [Contact Form 7] basic setupYes, you need to enter the address you want the mail to go to, when someone fills out your form. Here’s a video that shows you how to set up ContactForm 7, including where that address goes.

In reply to: multi-level navigation in 2011 themeHi Linda,
You just need to set up a custom menu for your theme and then ‘drag-and-drop’ the pages, posts, or categories, to arrange them in the order you want… nested items automatically become drop-down menus in main navigation.
A picture is worth a thousand words, so here’s a video that shows how to do it.
Cheers,

In reply to: Can't login to wp-adminI think govpatel has it here… if your domain is hosted with a different company (I.E., not Bluehost) then they have no idea you’ve moved to a new server. Think of it as the website equivalent of a “change of address” with the post office when you move to a new house. Until you update your settings there, you will not have connected your URL with the host where your WP site is located.
Contact Cheap Domains support and ask them to help you with a DNS change, and also contact Bluehost and get your nameserver info… Cheap Domains will need it to “flip the switch”
Oh, and welcome to WordPress. ??

In reply to: I installed the Simple paypal donation plug-in doesn't show.Out of curiosity, would it be easier to just take the button code (HTML) that PayPal gives you when you create it, and then past it into a text widget? The WordPress text widget also accepts and displays HTML code (not just text) and we use this trick all the time with sites we build. If all you need is one button, this method is a lot faster and less prone to problems than using a plugin to do the same thing.

In reply to: How to begin with wordpressWill this help? We’re recording a series of YouTube videos on this topic (still in progress) and here’s the first video, which shows how to install WordPress on your host using a web software install program called Softaculous.
If your host doesn’t offer this installer, ask if they have something similar.

In reply to: Can I use WordPress with blogger domain?Hi Sirinkoca,
if your domain is something like sitename.blogspot.com then the answer is no. blogspot.com indicates that your site runs on servers Google uses to run Blogger only, and it is not possible to install WordPress there.
You can check with Blogger (in their help section, perhaps?) to see if they will allow you to map a blogspot domain to an outside host, but I doubt they offer this.
Best of luck, and welcome to WordPress!

In reply to: Starting to use wordpressYour host should offer an installer of some kind that will put web software on your server, typically using a simple wizard to walk you through it. There a a ton of different ones out there, but I use Softaculous, which is available in hosting control panel we use. Here’s a video on how to use Softaculous if you have it. If you don’t see it in your host control panel, contact your provider and ask them if they offer something similar to automate the installation of WordPress.
If not, and you’re comfortable creating our own database and uploading a copy of the WordPress files via FTP, then you can’t go wrong with the Famous 5-Minute Install
Cheers
I’m having the same problem all the sudden. I have a site with two contact forms that have been customized from the default. However. when I visit the page the form is on, all that displays is the default form.
I’ve checked both pages, and the have the correct short code for the custom form, but the default contact form is all that is displayed.
I’ve tried deactivating and reactivating the plugin (did nothing) and short of wiping out the wpcf tables in the database and starting over, I have no idea how to resolve this issue. Anyone have ideas?
Thanks!
