Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: no emails being sent from WordPressThanks. I have tried 4 different email addresses, none goes through.
I have two other blogs hosted by the same server. Emails go through ok with them. It just seems to be this one site.
https://www.thundersmouththeatre.comI’ve logged a ticket with the server, waiting for response.
Thanks again.

In reply to: log in not workingThat’s an interesting suggestion. How would one know? What would be the point of hacking, just to make it impossible to login? The site is still active, functioning properly as far as I can tell.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how this should be addressed?

In reply to: unable to login at allI have now received a very unhelpful reply from IX Webhosting, referring me back to the earlier fix, and telling me to get on with it.
Here it is: You will perhaps understand why I am reluctant to undertake this myself:
>>
Let me please inform you that once you updated this ticket I decided to make sure that fresh WordPress installation is working fine and installed it into https://being-in-voice.com/webblog/ directory. Then I discovered that there is the same login issue as you experienced. So, I have searched the Internet and finally found a solution mentioned at the following pages:https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/12142#comment:33
https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/attachment/ticket/12142/12142.diffIn order to implement it I had to remove a code that is marked as dark green as you can see via https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/attachment/ticket/12142/12142.diff from the folloeing pages:
/being-in-voice.com/webblog/wp-login.php
/being-in-voice.com/webblog/wp-includes/general-template.php
/being-in-voice.com/webblog/wp-includes/pluggable.phpAfter that I was able to access https://being-in-voice.com/webblog/wp-admin page using the following login credentials:
Login: *****
Password: *****Then I tried to implement the same solution for https://www.being-in-voice.com/blog/ but found that it is still not accepting passwords. Moreover, I found that it does not send passwords using “Forgot Password” link (in https://being-in-voice.com/webblog this option works fine).
According to this, I decided to create a backup of the following tables that belong to ‘flloyd2_beingblog’ database:
#wp_commentmeta
#wp_comments
#wp_postmeta
#wp_posts tablesand restore them into flloyd2_flloyd2_webblogtest database I used for /being-in-voice.com/webblog/ blog.
If you check https://being-in-voice.com/webblog/ URL, you will see that it shows your blog as well as all the posts and commends. There is also no problem with admin login.
Kindly please check it from your end. You can try to use mentioned solution in order to recover other blogs in question. Please give it a try and let us know if any issue still persists. If you have any problems recovering sites, please keep us updated and allow us to completely re-install WordPress for these websites including removal of all current WordPress files from the server. Thank you for cooperation with us.
>>>They finally agreed to undertake the same process for the other blog that was playing up (same problem, could not get past the login page). The two sites that were fixed by them are still (last time I checked) working ok.
The real kicker is: how come they work fine, and then suddenly, out of the blue, stop working?
I’d really like an answer from BOTH WordPress, AND IX Webhosting.
Do let me know how you get on.
cheers

In reply to: unable to login at allHi edztra,
The problem was initially resolved by the IX webhosting people completely reinstalling WordPress, and then editing some of the files, since the problem persisted after the reinstall.
However, it has now returned! My site https://www.flloyd-in-voice.com, which was the first one to be fixed, now has the exact same problem again. I have tried all the fixes suggested above, to no avail.
I wonder if Hostmas, who posted above with the same problem, has managed to get it fixed?
In the past I have had terrific support from IX. This time, I have not heard back from them, nearly 2 days now. Oh dear.
Do keep in touch. I’ll let you know how I get on.
cheers

In reply to: log in not workingI had the same problem 3 weeks ago, with all 3 of my blogs.
I tried every solution suggested, including removing all the plugins, renaming the theme folder, replacing the password in PhpMyAdmin, plus the fixes suggested in the trac files.
Eventually, my hosting service (IXWebhosting) help-desk people reinstalled WordPress (3.1) from scratch for me (I had already done this myself, to no avail), and problem was still there – the login page just keeps on returning, and the ’email new password’ function doesn’t work. So they went into the files, made some adjustments, and all three blogs worked.
Yesterday, having done absolutely nothing to change anything, suddenly I have the same problem back again on one of my blogs: https://flloyd-in-voice.com. The website is available online, but I cannot get past the login page. I have tried resetting the password in PhpMyAdmin, deactivating the plugins, it makes no difference whatsoever.
Since I am clearly not the only person with this problem, for whom the published ‘fixes’ do not work, there must be more to the problem than has been so far addressed. I would also be extremely grateful if anyone can suggest something different.

In reply to: WordPress keeps resetting passwords, so I cannot loginThanks to all. Problem has been sorted out by my Hosting help desk people installing a completely new blog for me, and then patching around a dozen files. It must have been a pretty huge task, and I am extremely grateful to them for persevering. We still don’t know what caused the problem.
Thanks again for all your kind advice.
cheers

In reply to: Can't log in to dashboardMy problem has now been resolved by the helpdesk people at IXWebhosting. I thought you might be interested to know how they did it:

—As she says, everything works fine, but we had to create a completely new directory to do it.
And my media files have pretty much disappeared! Some of them appear on the blog pages, but in the gallery there are a lot of broken links.Hey ho. I will now set everything up again.
Thanks for all the offers of help. Much appreciated.

In reply to: Can't log in to dashboardLet me rephrase:
how do I deactivate plugins? how do I deactivate a folder?
I know how to deactivate them from within the dashboard – I just click on “deactivate”. But since I cannot get past the login page this is not an option.
I have tried deleting the plugins. I have tried renaming the folders. Is there another way to ‘deactivate’ them as suggested?
cheers
FlloydForum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Can't log in to dashboardThanks.
Yes, I have checked through the Master List.
I don’t know how to deactivate plugins from outside the dashboard, and I can’t get into the dashboard. So I have tried deleting them. All deleted, except for Akismet which refuses to allow itself to be deleted!
How do I switch to the Twenty Ten theme, without going through the dashboard? I have tried renaming the folders, all the happens is that my site disappears.
How do I reset a folder? There is nothing in my FTP software that offers an option to ‘reset’. Do I rename the folder? Reinstall it?
Sorry if I seem dumb. I’ve actually been using WordPress for years, both .com and .org. This is the first time I’ve had a major problem. I am not a coder. I like WordPress because it allowed me to get away without having to learn how to code!
Thanks again. I really appreciate your suggestions. If you can add to my knowledge I’d be most grateful.

In reply to: WordPress keeps resetting passwords, so I cannot loginOh me oh my! Well, here is the word from my host:
Version of iis on your server is IIS5.1, version of php 4.4.9As I understand it, WP 3.01 requires php5. So I guess that’s it. I can’t use WordPress.
Or is there a way I can reinstall an older version? At least until my hosting service upgrades to php5?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: WordPress keeps resetting passwords, so I cannot loginThanks for intervening, Ipstenu. I have seen other postings relating to inability to login, and the password resetting itself.. It’s just that they do the fixes and they work, when I do them, they don’t.
I will check with the host as to what version of IIS and PHP are involved. I am pretty confident they are the latest ones.
I don’t know how to deactivate plugins without deleting them, so I have deleted them – except that Akismet refuses to be deleted.
I have deleted the Hello Bar, but it’s still appearing on the site, even after refreshing. I suspect it is embedded within Thesis 18.
I have tried renaming the themes folders, this just makes the site disappear. I tried moving the thesis folder somewhere else, this just makes the site disappear. I need the site to be available, as I am sure you will appreciate.
I have double checked the wp-config file against the site that I managed to get logged into (still haven’t tried logging out, and then in again). It doesn’t make any difference.
My Host has explored those two Trac suggestions, and come to the conclusion that I have to reinstall – again – and create an entirely new database. Presumably this means I lose all previous data/posts/comments.
This seems counter-intuitive, as they are all available via the website at the moment, so surely the database cannot be corrupted. It must be something to do with how the wp-admin, wp-config and wp-login files are setup? I am totally NOT an expert in the code, in fact I am a complete ignoramus. I can copy, cut and paste when required, but do not know how to actually fix things.
I appreciate your words of wisdom. I am now waiting for host to provide information you requested.

In reply to: WordPress keeps resetting passwords, so I cannot loginThank you, Roy. I did see in the Sticky post that there could be a problem with IIS. The url within my server begins with iis96 – so perhaps that’s what the problem is.
If only WordPress would announce what’s going on, I wouldn’t have to waste any more time fiddling round, trying to get it to work.
At least is it comforting to hear someone say that they have no more suggestions!
Thanks again.

In reply to: unable to login at allI have tried following your instructions listed above to the letter, including changing the name of the theme folder. The problem persists.
Without doing a thing, on Sunday both my other two wordpress sites (upgraded to 3.1) went offline completely.
I have now installed a backup version of one, an earlier version of WordPress, and it is now working properly. I’ve upgraded it to 3.1, it still works, but I daren’t log out.
The other two have been completely reinstalled with the latest version of WordPress downloaded from the website ( I did not have backup versions of them). They are now back online, but I cannot login to either of them.
I have also tried the advice given at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/User:MichaelH/Orphaned_Plugins_needing_Adoption/Emergency
and also at
https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Resetting_Your_PasswordMy Host (IX Webhosting) now advises that it is a WordPress module that keeps resetting my password in MyPhpAdmin, to a string of numbers and letters that have nothing to do with MD5. It has done this to all passwords, every user who ever registered with my blogs. No matter what we do, they keep being reset, and there is nothing we can do about it. It is a WordPress bug.
Any other ideas? How does one get the attention of the WordPress people themselves?
Your advice much appreciated.
And Hostmas, you have my sympathy!
Oh, the 2 urls concerned are:

In reply to: unable to login at allThanks. I followed your instructions, including manually uploading an older version of WordPress, then upgrading to 3.1 automatically. It worked.
But that was last night. This morning, it’s back to square one. I cannot get past the login page. grrrr.
Any more suggestions?

In reply to: Can't log in to the admin panelI have the same problem. I renamed my theme folder, deleted inactive plugins from the server. No luck
Also tried telling it I lost my password. I got the “check your email for new password” screen, but no email ever arrived. Twice.
This is getting urgent, would really appreciate any new suggestions.
