Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: cannot loginThanks, tried that. No change.
As far as I can remember, I did two things yesterday morning. Upgraded to 3.1, and changed a new subscriber to ‘admin’, and entered a new password for her. So now we have two administrators. Perhaps WordPress can’t handle this?
I’ve asked my colleague to see if she can login, haven’t heard back from her yet. I know her password, but can’t remember her user name.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

In reply to: error establishing database connectionI asked my hosts, who discovered I had the wrong password in the config file. I have no recollection of changing it, but there you go. I corrected it, and all is well, as you saw!

In reply to: directory listing deniedok, just for the record, in case anyone else has the same problem, it was a matter of going into my server, and making sure that directory indexes were enabled, and listed correctly.
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: directory listing deniedI have tried all the suggestions in the Codex part of the WordPress system, including changing the password in the phpMyAdmin. I’ve reinstalled the login page.
I’m using a Macbook, with Snow Leopard 10.6.5. This is the latest version of WordPress 3.0.4.
I have installed 2 other blogs previously. I always seem to have the same problems, but each time it comes down to a different solution. The other 2 are now running ok.
The blog address is https://www.blog.being-in-voice.com
Cheers!

In reply to: Installation problems – Can't Log in After Site installsI agree with ‘esmi’, check with your hosting service. As I discovered, there are permissions that need to be set by you (or them, if you ask them to do it for you).
In my case, it was the directory of indexes that I needed to set to ‘on’ and then enter the extensions I wanted to be available. My hosting service sorted this out for me very quickly once I asked them.
Good luck!

In reply to: installation of new blog failsand I spoke too soon…
I have now managed to access the dashboard, but cannot get to see anything but the server’s holding page.
Getting very cross, two full days working on this now. What is it with this upgrade?

In reply to: Installation problems – Can't Log in After Site installsExcept that I spoke too soon…
I am now able to access the dashboard by typing mydomain/wp-admin, but if I try to access the actual website I just get the server’s holding page.
Guess I’ll have to start a new topic.

In reply to: Can't install 3.0.2. Please help.Just in case anyone else wanders by this post, looking for the answer, I solved it by deleting the pre-installed plugins and themes in the WordPress 3 download. I found this solution thanks to the help desk at IXWebhosting, who searched through the forum for some possible solutions for me.

In reply to: installation of new blog failsThanks to all who have offered suggestions. I managed to get past the install problem, by changing the password. Now can’t get past login, which just leaves me with a blank page, and this in the address bar: https://blog.thundersmouththeatre.com/wp-login.php
If I change it to wp-admin I get “Directory denied”.
The site link wasn’t working, because I had removed the index.html file from the directory as an experiment to see if it made a difference. Obviously, it did!
I was saddened by that ixwebhostwarning blog, because I’ve been with IX Webhosting for about 5 years, and only ever had excellent service and support from them.
Any suggestions as to how I can get past this blockade?

In reply to: Installation problems – Can't Log in After Site installsI have the same (or similar problem). I have installed the latest version 3 of WP, with duly edited config.php file, and passed the welcome screen asking for site’s title, username, password and email. It put me to the login page, but when I login I get a blank page with the address in the address bar of the browser as follows:
blog.thundersmouththeatre.com/wp-login.phpIf I try typing in https://www.blog.thundersmouththeatre.com/wp-admin I get the following: Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.
Advice would be greatly appreciated.

In reply to: Can't install 3.0.2. Please help.I have the same problem. Had to change password on MySQL to get past the install stage, which then brought up the login sequence, followed by a blank page.
Where do I find the “PHP Safe Mode” switch, to check if it is on or off?
I have another blog on the same server, have upgraded it to V3 and it’s still working fine.
Blog I’m trying to set up is https://www.blog.thundersmouththeatre.com. Server is IX Webhosting. Been using them for years, also using WP.org for years.
Any advice much appreciated.
