In reply to: ARGH! clearing gallery of imageshmmmm. i guess the best way to do this is to open a new tab, create a new post, copy the text from the old post, copy the title from the old post, delete the old post and add the images into the new post…

In reply to: I had Users whose names i don't knowOK. thanks. i have to read up on this.
but, what is the purpose exactly of someone registering on my blog? i mean, if they can read the posts anyway…
also, what is the reason why i would allow people to subscribe in this manner as opposed to preventing them from subscribing…?
also, presumably i can give people permission to /create/ a post and then i could /publish/ the psot myself after having reviewed it is that right?
thanks…

In reply to: I had Users whose names i don't knowhi guys.
OK. thanks. i am feeling stupid.
so can i please ask you – so this has nothing to do with signing up for an RSS feed. this has to do with someone wanting to become a “Subscriber”? what is the purpose of this for them? what is the purpose of this for me?
also, i had a guy on another blog set me up with a php login name and password where he let me write a post and then asked me to just alert him before i posted. of course i screwed this up thinking i was simply saving the post (and not actually publishing it) so he bumped me down to a lower level of access.
i guess this is the sort of thing we are talking about? if so, can i uncheck anyone can register and still give people access to write content and not publish it until i decide to publish…?
THANKS (also a big thanks for the link)

In reply to: wp login screen visible in wp image uploaderhi christine.
thank you so much.
i have tried to unload all plugins that are not critical.
can i please ask you if you or anyone are aware of problems wih being “multiply” logged in to WP? what i mean is that i tend to have a number of windows open while i am editing my blog and i also tend to be logged in to multiple pages where i can edit a page in WP. this means that i will have a number of tabs open with the wp login page and then i will enter my login information and i will go back and forth between the pages as i proof and edit my site.
thanks!
thank you!

In reply to: gallery image orientation problemhi esmi. sorry it is:
https://formpig.com/blog/2013/01/modified-translations-at-aag-at-the-pompidou-center-in-paris/
these are all jpg’s.
also, a thank you for the reminder from WPyogi. i am trying to always use png but i see in this case i am using jpg.
as a side note i see that on another post (in another thread) – that tiff is displaying fine for images /in/ the post but that it is causing the thumbnail that is used (also tiff) to get stretched….but i gather from Wpyogi’s advice that it would be best to stay away from tiff altogether even if it happens to be displaying properly in say safari….

In reply to: gallery image orientation problemhi. thanks. i spent about six months trying to figure out what was wrong with this about two or more years ago. i have not had a problem with it since.
now it is baaaa—aaaack.
the problem i am seeing (thanks for reminding me where these settings are) is that my settings ARE:
310 w x 150 h and the somewhat confusingly worded “Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)” is CHECKED.
the thumbnail i posted is obviously stretched.
oh, no (oh god) this isn’t another one of those issues where i am uploading a non-png image accidentally, is it? oh god. yikes.
if it is, can someone please explain to me what the problem is that WP has with tiff or png (I can’t imagine i have another file format on my computer) so that if this is the case and i forget what is going on here at least i /understand/ what is going on so i can remind myself without having to post the question?
also, this seems like a common enough problem (based on the off forum questions i got about it originally) and it is obscure enough to figure out to have a faq on it if it doesn’t already exist (and again if this is in fact the problem this time…
THANKS

In reply to: can i get a (paragraph) break? or whateverok. thanks very much for the reminder about not copying text from word. this is what i was doing…
on this one, is it possible to get some help though? i just let my membership lapse on the other site because i had to get a new credit card due to fraud on it and it is going to take me some time to get set up again on this site (if i decide to).
also, since i am going through the normal WP UI and this is not working perhaps some others can confirm that it does not work for them either on other themes on .org or that in fact it does work for them on other themes on .org?
i mean, this alone would be a great help…to know if it is a F8 problem or a WP issue or a user error issue…

In reply to: alternatives to Gallery functionalityhi christine,
very interesting. nice to see something like this in the galleries. i hate to say it but i have not been a big fan of how galleries function within WP. i find it somewhat error prone on upload but also very tricky to get it laid out the way i want it or without cropping. the UI here seems excessively confusing to me.
i will ask elsewhere but if i want to re-arrange the number of images or the order of the images i can never delete all the images from the gallery content tab which is very frustrating.
anyway, i was going to post on the forum for this link you give but i wonder if you might know if this gallery function will CROP or stretch the images in any way. if it crops images it is not something i want to use even though it looks like a nice improvement.

In reply to: [Photo Galleria] FLICKR Album integration?!hi michael,
while i study this could you help me out with how i think about Photo Galleria as opposed to something like the theme “Sidewinder? https://graphpaperpress.com/themes/sidewinder/
i mean, i have gotten a bit confused in trying to figure out what is a theme and what may be some kind of WP PLUGIN that enhances the functionality of a theme. and – well – for instance i guess Photo Galleria is a theme and FSI is a plugin to optimize the functionality/workflow of dealing with this theme?
are there other themes that it works with such as sidewinder?
are there other plugins or themes that i could use to optimize my workflow when dealing with this need (portfolio publication to the web)??
thanks,
jon

Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Aperture Friendly Themes or Plugins?hi michael,
thank you for posting here. i would be happy to participate in any way that is helpful for something like this. i should also probably have a bit of a think about a more thorough answer to your question but off the top of my head i would say the following. please keep in mind that i am somewhat tech savvy and understand scripting but i am not particularly code savvy.
1. i am surprised at how relatively difficult this seems to be vis-a-vis my WP website. i am planning on setting up a portfolio website as opposed to a WP blog and i really could use something more automated for this.
2. the workflow with Aperture to Flickr is almost seamless for me now that i have arranged my images. some quick caveats below.
3. metadata on my web published images and pdf’s is really important so i am finalizing all of this now in my various databases. being able to /update/ added or /changed/ metadata is super important. my understanding is that the plugin i purchased about a year ago may have been updated to do this whereas it was not able to do this in the past (at least to my understanding).
4. it is extremely helpful and necessary to be able to UPDATE and/or CHANGE existing Albums in Aperture (if i have new images to add to a project or if i decide to take out images or if i finally get my LOGOS together and put a logo overlay with copyright information on all my images…) – so – since it is so easy to update this in Aperture it would be huge to be able to do it easily for the WP album. Aperture is not quite perfect with this for Flickr but i think it is reasonably straightforward. Basically my understanding is that rather than select the whole album and republish you have to select just the added images and republish them and quite frankly now that i write this i am not sure how you DELETE images from an Album while in Aperture.
5. if you browse the Aperture plugin pages there are some very good plugins, very nicely presented and it seems like a very rich environment to present work in. FYI i have printed this list out and studied it to see what i need to optimize my productivity.
6. i think the Adobe equivalent to Aperture is “Lightroom” and frankly i would purchase lightroom if i could get this functionality out of lightroom and obviously i am sure a plugin could be modified to work in LR.
anyway, i see you have another post here which i will review. please let me know if i have left anything out. i will take a closer look at the link you kindly provided and i can also give you my email address if you want to follow up offline.
again many thanks,
jon
