In reply to: Trackback EtiquetteHi Ipstenu. Thanks so much.
Is there a way to let this professional comment get through to the Page but to not have Comments? For instance, can I /temporarily/ enable comments on this /Page/ somehow and let it get through? I really don’t want to deal with other comments in general but in the case where there are valid pingbacks from professionals I would love to let them get through…
Also, it seems bizarre to me that this is put on a PAGE since this Page is really an /information/ page for the site and not what I would consider a conventional BLOG POST. I mean, this isn’t really a page that would have comments turned on for anyway unless I am badly missing something. I mean, I feel a bit dumb asking this but here is how it shows up in WP:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/15285654/Screen%20shot%202012-02-12%20at%2002.05.51%20PM.png
and here is the PAGE that they linked to:
‘https://formpig.com/blog/?page_id=699’ https://formpig.com/blog/?page_id=699
Would a link such as this show up the SAME if they linked to a PAGE on my Blog as it would if they linked to a BLOG POST on my blog – I mean, I guess this is assuming I turn comments on?
Thanks for the help here because I am not doing so well on my own with this…

In reply to: Trackback EtiquetteThank you. I will take the advice on contacting them via email which is a good idea.
Can I please ask you how this works on my end with WP? For instance I have deleted trackbacks that were obviously spam. But I also approved a valid Trackback that appears to have been made on a /page/. And I am not seeing this trackback either on the Website itself or in the editable page when I am logged into WP. Am I correct in assuming that these things don’t work the same way on a Page as they would on a Post?
Do I need to turn something on to have these show up on the Blog?!
Also, can I /move/ it to a Post where it would be better suited since it is relatively important? I mean, I would prefer it is not on the page anyway…
Lastly, I guess I should expect /all/ internal links on my site to turn up as Trackbacks on my site? I mean, I ask this because I am seeing a lot of what appear to be internal links showing up as trackbacks but there does not seem to be enough of them to be /all/ the internal links…
THANK YOU

In reply to: Changing Permalinks Setting?Hi SP.
Thank you for the help here. I am sort of dead in the water without this kind of help and I think I am almost finished at this point.
Can I ask what you mean when you say “yes” if they are hard coded? I mean, you are saying “yes” I have to manually change it if I want it to /show/ up as a friendly url? I mean, you are saying if I /want/ it to show I have to manually change it but if I don’t care about it showing in what has already been done I can just leave it as it is and all new posts (and therefore links I create to these) will be url friendly?
But will the existing hard coded links still work? I mean, do I need to go in and manually change these to the NEW url or they become broken?
Also, I am not following what you mean by hard coded. You refer to Widgets and I am also using TEXT Widgets which means I am manually putting in code that includes urls for post or urls for categories and i am not sure if you mean that these would be hard coded examples? I mean, hard coded means what I put in manually or this is what is in the underlying WP coding in the theme that I can’t access? I guess I am just trying to figure out if I can do this change and /not/ make manual fixes by going through the whole site or if I have to dedicate the time to going through the whole site and manually update all the existing links.
Almost there…
THANKS

In reply to: Changing Permalinks Setting?Hi! Thank you very much.
Two things:
Can I ask you how I go about doing this? I mean, can I check to see what is loaded on /my/ portion of the host in terms of what is up on the WP portion of my site or does this have to happen at a higher level at (in my case) Aplus.net?
Also, assuming I am not terribly worried about external links or ranking (I suppose) – what about /internal/ links?? Do I need to check and see when I have linked to a CATEGORY for instance? I see I link a number of times to something that ends in:
blog/?cat=39Or what about when I link to a PAGE? I see I have pages that end in something like:
blog/?page_id=6235Do I need to overhaul these links /within/ my site after I make the change I have indicated?
THANKS

In reply to: IpstenuHi. Thanks. I very much appreciate the help. Will do.
Moving forward can you please consider giving me the courtesy of my following up on my posts before closing them out, if you find something you think is not on topic?
It can be very hard to try and navigate the forums appropriately if I one is not given the opportunity of asking at least one follow up question. It can also sometimes be hard to explain exactly what one is trying to resolve if you don’t get this opportunity.
Thanks!

In reply to: IpstenuHi Ipstenu,
Can I please ask you in the future to let me clarify the questions on my posts myself?
It may be that you are totally correct, it may be that I am totally correct, or it may be that there is a mix of each and we can come to an agreement if I am allowed to discuss the topic factually with someone who is interested.
If the post is removed or if no one is allowed to ask me a follow up question, or if we continue to talk past each other without allowing me to clarify, I end up at square one which is very frustrating.
Thanks and regards.

In reply to: IpstenuHi Andrea.
Perhaps it would be preferable if you can contribute in another thread when I get a chance to clarify the OP?
Thanks.

In reply to: IpstenuIpstemu.
Thanks. I appreciate the follow up and apologies if the original attempt to contact you was unwanted.
I guess what I would say is 1. Thanks for not closing this post as I also agree that conversations be helpful to others. And 2. I intend to re-ask but it would be preferable to be allowed to follow up on a post /prior/ to re-posting in order to get some guidance on how to make this most effective.
If the post is closed without the courtesy of being allowed to follow up or get a clarification it feels unproductive but also rude.
Regards and peace.

In reply to: Ipstenui am trying to ask a question related to my WP site and get some help finding out where the most appropriate place is to post it. it is not specific to webalizer and the post makes that pretty clear esmi.
but my main point is that it would be preferable to close out posts /after/ letting me know they will be closed or /after/ allowing me to clarify or ask a follow up. this seems like common courtesy from any walk of life in any life situation.
i’ll repost a modified version of the question in another forum and hopefully it will be seen fit to be allowed to be seen by someone that can help me out.
is that OK?
Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: IpstenuHi Esmi.
I am trying to ask a question that seems pertinent to WP. I looked on the com site and then i looked on the org site and i posted where it /appeared/ appropriate.
when it was closed, with no ability to follow up, i tried to get in touch with the person that closed it to follow up. there was no email so i did the best i could. there appears to be a section in your link about following up but i don’t understand it exactly.
“Contacting the Moderators
As the moderators are all volunteers (no one gets paid), we ask that if you need moderator help for any reason, you post your request in the forum and tag it with the term “modlook” – someone will come take a look. Do not abuse that tag, or your account will be disabled.”I guess this is saying that I do what I did here but with “modlook”? in the title?
Anyway, I think the questions are pertinent to WP and I’d like to repost them, however if I can’t ask a follow up about this it makes it hard to make sure they arrive in the right place, which is basically all I am asking for…
Cheers.

i have really wanted to tackle this.

In reply to: IpstenuHi Jan!
Thank you for the links. Both are very helpful.
The post you link to is correct. When it gets closed with no discussion and/or – well – anything at all there is no recourse to follow up except to click on the link for person that closed the Post (i.e. my first effort) or to repost again (i.e. this thread).
I don’t even really mind the post being closed but what I object to is my post being closed without so much as the courtesy of letting me know it was being closed. Even when i am on a webchat (really with /anyone/) we each give the other the time to say “thank you” or “I am going to close the chat – OK” or “your help was really appreciated!” or “please feel free to follow up as necessary” etc.
It comes across as really rude to me to close a thread out without giving someone the ability to clarify or ask for a clarification. It is also really frustrating. I /know/ this was not at all the intent but the point is that I wouldn’t hang up on someone on the phone or on a webchat in this manner and it doesn’t feel nice to have it happen on the forum.
Anyway, would you mind if I ask a follow up here related to the original post so I can get it situated a little better over here in terms of some of these issues?
Regards and thanks!

In reply to: changing footer BLOG info textooh. Hi alchymyth.
Thank you. I see that the text from the General Settings Site Title shows up at the /top/ where it does look good. It is just that at the bottom it looks really cluttered.
Do you mind my if I follow up with you about this hard coded text issue? I have been able to do a decent amount in HTML (with some great help on the Forum…) but is there a tip or two or even a site that breaks this down more in a sort of pedantic way?
I mean, can I just put text between the parenthesis and expect it to show up instead of the single quote and the – I guess that “name” is some sort of active link to the Site Title…?
THANK YOU
