Ive just noticed the following errors when accessing the settings page for the Akismet plugin:

The key below was previously validated but a connection to akismet.com can not be established at this time. Please check your server configuration.

When i scroll down to the server status the following message is displayed:

A network problem or firewall is blocking all connections from your web server to Akismet.com. Akismet cannot work correctly until this is fixed. Please contact your web host or firewall administrator and give them this information about Akismet and firewalls.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this prob & how to fix it? when i deactivate the W3TC plugin the image enlarger and image magnifier work perfcectly….

Ive contacted the theme designers (via teh support forums) – but am only getting 1 reply per day – so in effect ive been sat with this problem now on my site for two days!!!!

The designers tell me that my images were not aligned correctly in the first instance and gave me this strip of code to try:

.entry img {float:left;margin:0 10px 10px 0 }
.entry p{clear:both}

Upon entering this code in the custom css block (within the theme options) all the images shifted to the left side of the screen – meaning some of the text was wrapped around the images (not the desired effect that i wanted)

They have then given me this code to use:

.entry img {float:none !important;display:inline !important}

What happens when using thsi code is that when ive used left & right images with text between – there is now a giant white space in between and the text is shifted below the images – i also have instances of stray text (where the odd word will be displayed next to an image, while the rest is displayed underneath)

If anyone has any help they can offer on this matter, i would be really grateful – as great as the theme designers are, i think more than 1 reply per day would be helpful.

Interestingly – the images were perfectly aligned before the 3.4 update – so very strange that it’s now theme related….(also worth noting is that im using the latest theme update – so it should work perfectly and not conflict with wordpress 3.4)

Gabfire Transcript

Hi Wendy,

I have the Gabfire WP AdvNewspaper theme if you would like to try it out.

I’m currently trying to set up my site using the Gabfire transcript theme, but am having a few issues – do you have a working transcript theme on one of your sites?

The problems im having is the featured content block is displaying the post text directly underneath the image and so it’s being covered by the black post title box – for other posts within the featured section, the title block is pushed down.

Another problem is the thumbnails – they display fine on the front page, but when i click on a post there is no image displayed.

I’m guessing there’s something im not doing, but the included installation pdf was very basic to say the least.

Any help you could give would bge greatly appreciated

thanks for the quick reply.

I did create a new custom field called reviews – i added this exactly the same within the widget area. I then uploaded the image i wanted displayed and copied the image url and pasted it into the posts custom vale under the key i’d created – i.e

custom key name inside widget settings: reviews
Custom Key created withgin the new post: reviews
Custom key value within the post: url to the image i just uploaded

I hit save and preview post but all i get is the text.

the readme/ installation for this plugin though states i need a custom field image that must be my uploads folder and that the image must be named the same as the custom name set up within the widget.

what i dont understand is what image do i upload to my uploads folder? and once i have uploaded this image exactly what will i have to do in order for other images to display?

again sorry if i sound like a numpty, but i just dont get it at all.

I actually wanted the plugin to display above where it states latest news – and there doesn’t appear to be a widget area for that.

Ive activated the plugin anyhow and am trying to add a test post but cannot get the image to display (all i get is text) – i’m new to all this so am still learning.

It states in the installation:

Posts must have a custom field image in the Uploads folder and be called using the same Custom Field Image Name you set for the widget.

I’m not entirely sure what this means?

Any help is as ever is greatly appreciated (it’s prob something really simple i’m not doing and will possibly end up making me look really dense)

You enter the code whereever you want the star rating to show up. I’m setting up a review site and i copy the following code and paste it at the end of my post:

that will give you the following (but you change the ratings names to whatever you want them to be):

To change the names and scores in the above code – find the name you want to change and enter the score you want:

The theme im trying to get it to work with is the NewsPro theme.

Funny thing is as soon as you mentioned incompatibility issues i went in to my plugins page and deactivated any plugins that did not come bundled with the newspro theme and now it works perfectly ??

obviously a conflict between the plugin that came with the theme and one i had from a few other themes i’d tried.
