I tested the different plugins and the problem is with
WPSSO Core Pro – when I deactivate that plugin, the URL is saving correctly. Strange that it does not happen with LinkedIn only Twitter.

Do you think there is a way around that? Unfortunately, my client needs that plugin.

I also tried to put the url https://twitter.com/solomonhalpern in the Twitter field
but when I save it is replaced by @solomonhalpern in the field:

Is looks like it is a server configuration problem. After reading about hosting problems with Buddypress, I decided to move from Zippykid to wpengine hosting and I do not have that problem there – really like their hosting, speed and staging areas too. You can call for support and their support is great. I was very disappointed for the support at Zippykid, they never try to solve that problem, and you cannot call them.

Ah! thank you. I also noticed another thing, when I try to change the Email Subscriptions Defaults, the forum disappears after I save. I need then to go to the forum tab and put it back.

I click on Admin – than settings – then in email subscriptions defaults,
Email Subscription Defaults

When new users join this group, their default email notification settings will be:
NO EMAIL (USERS WILL READ THIS GROUP ON THE WEB – GOOD FOR ANY GROUP – THE DEFAULT)
than no matter the choice I made after I save it come back to ALL EMAILS
