  • I lost cats and pages with the upgrade to 2.5 from 1.2.?. I changed the wp_config file but that made no difference. Any thoughts?

I was having simular problems and checked and unchecked as advised above and when I get to the page: https://prebleny.com/wp-comments-post.php it just hangs and no comment appears to be posted. Web site is:

    https://prebleny.com/

BTW Some time ago I was getting comment spammed and did some things to stop it. (I know it would be real nice if I could remember what they were but I don’t, sorry, I’m old, mind gone.) I just upgraded t0 1.5.1 and I assumed that by doing that I canceled whatever I did. I remember changing some files in 1.5 that I assumed were replaced with the upgrade to 1.5.1. And I followed the delete old files first instructions. Boy doesn’t this just p you off. Anyway, if there is somewhere where it is written how to set up WP to allow comments and prevent spam I would sure like to read it. Thanks in advance for any help you can supply.

Thank you, thank you mahalie and SCPanther.

I had the same experience as SCPanther and after deleting the empty account my comments seem to be working. However, it took a few minutes to figure out how to delete the account. To save someone else the time. First click on the minus (-) sign until it is zero and then you can delete it. The logic for that process isn’t obvious.

On an slightly unrelated topic, has anyone redone the admin pages to make them more ‘user friendly’? I love WP but navigating through the admin is a guessing game.

So it is there. I find this odd. Perhaps the right thing to do is remove it for now until it can be properly discussed.

The idea is that this poker guy is hitting ‘wp-comments-post.php’ directly and just using a counter to increment the post id. In my case it started at id#1, 2 etc. I have almost 1000 posts so I was in a hurry to stop it. As instructed in the above thread I changed the name of ‘wp-comments-post.php’ to something else and also changed the reference to it in index.php to match. As an extra precaution I removed the line of code for comments in index.php too. This stopped it but I don’t know which worked. When I have time I plan on looking at some of the other things mentioned here. I’m new to WP, moved from Blogger a week ago. So far I love it a lot! Thanks for all the hard work everyone is doing. A great bunch of people here.

No I take that back… I just tabbed back over to your site and when I mouse over a link it disappears and the page scrolls up. Strangest thing. I have no clue, good luck.

I loaded if fine in Safari 1.2.3 (v125.9) Looks nice, I like the retro perfed paper look. It seems to me there was a new update to Java or something that I do recall installing. Perhaps running Software Update would be helpful.
