So, I actually resolved this problem on my own, though not sure if it is the best way to do it, but I thought I would post it just in case.

The import generated a database with 21 tables (the old and new WP tables). Since the new database was empty I discovered I could just drop the new tables and rename the old ones. I only did this for the wp-content folder however, and would be loathe to do it with any of the other tables.

This worked for me because I didn’t have much content or any other users, and only a handful of content because my blog is young. I don’t think this will work for anybody who isn’t in this position.
