I decided to give up and manually upgrade *all* my clients who are having this *same* issue. That way at least they’ll be able to use the wp admin to change themes and add plugins.

Hopefully the next release will address the issue — I’ve already spent an entire day on it.

ipsentu — the .htaccess line didn’t work for me. Good luck everyone!

Forgot to mention above… once you delete the /upgrade folder you want to recreate it and set the chmod to 777.

I’m on a dedicated server and have changed the php configuration to upload_max_filesize: 128M and memory_limit: 128M — no luck.

Good news is that if your upgrade files you just need to go into /wpcontent via your ftp or cpanel and delete the /upgrade folder… then go to the root of your wordpress installation and delete the .maintainence file. That will get you back to where you started.

Can’t wait to see the fix for this because I’m sure I’ll have clients clamoring desperately for help here pretty quick. Yikes!

VictoryTrader — that sounds logical. Any idea how much the upload limit needs to be increased to? I’ve changed mine to 8M and am still getting errors :-/
