i have resolved my frustrations with blocks by installing the classic editor plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/classic-editor/

it simply takes you back to the familiar old editor interface & i’m using it on several different wordpress sites with no problems at all.

but if you are keeping your site only for archive purposes and not planning to keep adding to it or updating it, then i would recommend that you export it to static html. this will mean you don’t need to keep doing updates to wordpress or plugins, & it will stay the same for the foreseeable future. you will need to host it somewhere, but if it’s not a big site then you should be able to find a cheap place to park it. there are plugins that will turn your wordpress site into a static site, i have not done this yet myself so i can’t recommend anything, but i expect i will do it in the not too distant future with a site for a project that is finished. there’s usually no need to have a dynamic CMS for an archived site.

perhaps useful for some people – but it doesn’t justify making the entire editing interface into blocks.

thanks for your reply. the coding is a bit beyond me, i would probably mess everything up if i tried it. basically the unorthodox structure is causing problems with almost everything i try to do, so i think in the long run we need to find a better solution.

we have wordpress 3.3.2 which it says is the latest (stable) version of wordpress.

i’ve deleted the plugin, downloaded it again, & reuploaded it. same thing – clicking on the insert buttons does nothing.

i suspect it may be to do with the unorthodox directory structure that we have for wordpress (apparently for very good reasons, but i don’t understand them). our plugins directory is outside of the actual wordpress directory. most plugins still work fine, but i have had problems in the past that are maybe also to do with this.

i have the same or similar problem: when i go to the project management interface, as the page loads i see the form for adding a new project briefly, then it disappears. clicking on the “new project” link does nothing.

i’ve tried in firefox, chrome & safari (on mac os10.6) & it’s all the same. when i open firebug i see a pile of 404 not found errors. my site is wordpress 3.3.2 which is the current stable version. i downloaded & installed the plugin in the usual way.

i have the same problem. i’m not seeing any JavaScript error. just nothing happens when i click on any of the insert buttons. have tried different browsers. don’t want to disable any other plugins on the site. JavaScript is enabled & functioning in my browsers.

the tokbox people were very good at trying to respond to my problem (here & directly by email) but it seems that in our installation of wordpress, for some reason we have the plugins directory outside of the main wordpress directory, & this might have been what was causing problems for us.

since presumably there was a good (altho perhaps now historical) reason for having the plugins directory in a non-standard place, i’ve ended up by giving up on this one. but if your plugins directory is where it should be, then it should be possible to get it working.

i tried installing the 0.9.9.9.1 version which i think is the one we had, but i’m getting the same errors when i try to activate it (it stops the entire site from displaying, & i have to delete the plug-in via ftp in order to fix it).

ok, i redownloaded the file, checked that services.php & add-to-any-widget.php were there, ftp-d the directory & went to the plug-ins page. it was showing up so i activated it … & got the same error messages as above ??

it’s very wierd because it was working fine before, it is only with this upgrade that it is breaking.

is it possible to reinstall the older version?

yes i did, but i didn’t re-download the file, i can try that. however it looks like the missing file is add-to-any.php & that is definitely there. but i will try a fresh download …

thanks for your reply; the blog is https://www.upstage.org.nz & we are using wordpress 3.0.5. the theme is one that was adapted from the default wordpress theme about 4 years ago.

i installed the latest version of the plug-in, & it showed up in the plug-ins page & was able to be activated, but that was about it …

i thought this was the solution … but this morning i’ve discovered that the stats are not working again ?? i’m getting the message that my wordpress account is not authorised to view the stats of this blog.

so i followed the instructions on the first link, & found 2 entries of the API key in the database. i deleted both, & back in my wordpress install i had to re-enter the API key for akismet & for wordpress stats. it worked fine for akismet, but it is not working for wordpress stats – i’m back to square one – it is saying i need to enter the correct API key, but the link to do this just refreshes the same page.

so, back to the database. this time i just deleted the API key for the wordpress stats. but then my wordpress install only let me re-enter the key for akismet, & for wordpress stats i was in the same situation.

so, back to the database & deleted both instances of the API key, again. tried entering it for the wordpress stats first but it still doesn’t work. i tried to get a new, different API key to use for the stats, but from the akismet site you now have to pay, & from the wordpress site it requires me to set up a new account – i don’t understand why – & after putting in a few usernames that are already taken i am just thoroughly fed up with the whole thing & going to look for a simpler stats plugin. just feel like i have wasted a whole lot of time on this now ??
