Sorry, I should have clarified. After I tried a subfolder, I deleted it and started another fresh install. Each install of wordpress I chose both options and when it didn’t work, I started fresh.
I got it working finally. I had to use WordPress 4.0 and it worked like a charm. It seems 4.2.2 has some issues with multisite?
