In reply to: Custom navigation menuFrom a general sense, yes. Could you provide more info?
– Where is this page? On an existing wordpress page or from a site that does not have wordpress?
– Where is the drop down menu? Is it part of an existing menu already?Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: Looking to build a brainstorming site@mabec, I run my own sites but I do not provide consulting services. What Andrew shared should be enough to get you started in finding someone who may be able to help you. Best of luck!

In reply to: Looking to build a brainstorming siteBased on the info you provided, I believe buddypress can do what you want. That said, you’d install buddypress as a wordpress plugin (you don’t use buddypress ‘instead’ of wordpress).
Here’s where you can learn more about buddypress.

In reply to: Website not shown on Google despite SEO effortsWhen you say ‘recently’, how long has it been? I agree with catacaustic that it could take a while.
For many of my sites, I was able to have Google index within a day or so but to get them to appear high on their rankings, I used Google’s keyword research tool and attacked sub-niche areas. That allowed me to gain traction much more quickly.
That said, depending on what your trying to achieve, it could still take weeks, months, and even years to get your targeted outcome.

In reply to: Adding Key Words for optimisation in searchesI would just use keywords naturally within your content. Padding keywords will penalize you in the long run.
Obviously you can do some keyword research and try to better leverage certain words and phrases but if you’re just starting out, it’s not necessary.

In reply to: spamYou can still empty spam quickly. Click on Comments on left nav, click on Spam on top nav, click Empty Spam.

In reply to: Alexa scoreYour Alexa score will be different when you switch to a self-hosted solution.
That said, Alexa is just one of many performance indicators (and not an incredibly reliable one either). Don’t let that impact your decision to switch.

In reply to: Best way to Organize my WebsiteThere are other variables to consider but based on the info you gave, I would set up four categories and simply use tags for the states.

In reply to: You have not logged in since June 2011….You should not need to reset your password regularly. I would try resetting it again and then changing it to something that works for you. Keep in mind that unlike many sites, this one uses case-sensitive passwords.

In reply to: wordads vs adsenseNot sure if anyone would be able to answer that since there are so many variables.
However, I can tell you that by using a self-hosted environment, you’d have many more revenue-generating options available to you. Adsense would potentially be only one small slice of your entire income pie.

In reply to: Visitor numbers and AdvertisingNumber of visitors is just one variable in the equation. The quality of the visitors, the quality of the content, the ability to convert, and as you stated, the niche are some others.
Additionally, advertising isn’t the only stream in the revenue mix. You could earn income by posting guest articles on your site, writing guest articles on other sites, providing links, and using affiliates, just to name a few.
You can always start with something like AdSense to play around with. To earn a “viable” income, meaning a few dollars a day, usually takes an average of at least several hundred visitors daily.

In reply to: Please Advise: Fact/Trivia Website or Blog?I believe this is very doable in WP. In fact, one of my sites (pmtestcenter.com) posts a daily question of the day within my niche. Much of the functionality you described is what I created with very few plugins.
