I’m watching this thread, too. It is a most vexing problem.

With the installation of 2.1, my errors are all gone. Don’t need to deactivate any plugin.

I certainly don’t mean to be dense, but if downloading them is the only goal, what do you want a plugin to do that a link on a page wouldn’t do?

Is the goal of this plugin to automatically update the wp installation from the source?

If it is, then I am *real* interested!

Problem solved.

I’ve just solved my widget 1.0.20060711 config problem by disabling HeadSpace 2.6. With HeadSpace disabled, I configure widgets, and then re-enable HeadSpace.

Of course, my troubleshooting is not conclusive, but it worked for me.

Further research has eliminated BadBehavior as possible problem. When BB block bots, they get a 403 error.

I’m using BadBehavior 2.0.7, but in all the docs I’ve read about this, it should turn bots away at the top (and does very nicely, too), not shut them down during their crawl.

Normally, I *really* dislike dark backgrounds, but you’ve pulled this one off very, very well!!

I had this problem. Might have been the server cache. It went away for me, too

Most of my viewers are rural folk, on dial up. Page speed load is important to me. Use this:

and you’ll have a good idea where the “fat” is.

I also use:

which gives pretty fine grain posts per page control.

If your server is in a different time zone, you’ll need to take that into account, too.

Also, save yourself a LOT of heartache and avoid ms-word like the plague. Use any other editor.
