I ended up upgrading to the paid version (which honestly is well worth it, thankyou) and then it all started working.
Clearly the problem was not to do with the server / hosting but maybe an incompatibility with something that’s included in the paid for version that is not in the free one.
Happy to do some digging if you would like to get to the bottom of the initial problem but as far as I am concerned the issue is now dealt with by upgrading.
