make sure to reboot the server. I don’t know the Yahoo equivalent of this, but get access to your php.ini file.2. Make sure you have the directory set to wp-content/uploads in your options. then create the folder. then set the permissions to 777

In reply to: Extra forward slash added causing pages to breakIt actually does help with Google. It places keywords into the link, which aides in the results (you’ll see them bolded in your results). Plus it makes it easier to to read. There is a large following of people that use mod_rewrite to make their websites better, such as online stores that have product names in the URL instead of index.php?product_id=12345
I admit it is a bunch of work to get it to work, but you can weigh out whether it is worth your time. To me, it matters for my websites, so I spend the extra time.

In reply to: Gimme ideas to improveNice I’ll try that gallery. Thanks a bunch for the input; it really helps.
Yeah I have my main site gavinphotography.com on a black background to pull out the photos, but decided to try a white background to ease up on the reading in the blog (i hate reading white on black). I’ll try a black template to see how it works.
I like the idea of slimming it up, since most of my competition is really cluttered. The one thing I don’t want to make brides (which are usually breezing through and not computer savvy) click too often to get to the images. I want them to scroll, and scroll, and keep scrolling, getting new and great images as they keep going. Whadda think guys?

In reply to: Image upload not working.you need to make sure your content upload directory (in your options) actually exists. Once it does, give that directory 775 permissions. If it doesn’t work, make sure your server through Yahoo has safe mode turned off.
Check out this thread a day ago that might solve your problem. It helped me get my photo blog up and running

In reply to: Visual rich editor and adding embedded materialSweeeeeet
The WYSIWYG editor is currently TinyMCE, which strips out the embed tags. Lame. A plugin is the only workaround until they change that.

In reply to: Is mine the most boring blog on the net?Get one red paperclip…
WOW, the font has almost nothing to do with the success of a site. Start with interesting content that will expand your demographics BEYOND family and friends. I looked at your page for 3 seconds before I decided your life was not exciting enough to ponder over (no offense though). That’s why you add crazy stories, personality, attitude, and attractive images.
I don’t expect my MySpace profile to wow people, but I made sure to put hot pictures of my GF and her friends at the top to get people to go lower and see my life philosophies.
Think marketing. Think of why a magazine keeps your attention. Then reach out to appropriate audiences (whether with search engines, BB’s, or other blogs).

In reply to: How Can I Keep My First Post on Top of all Posts? You can always modify the template to have stuff underneath the main image and before the articles. I added links under my main image ( see here ) and I could have easily have put text and images there as a pretext for the whole site.

In reply to: Visual rich editor and adding embedded materialI used BroadcastYourself as a plugin so I could have photo slideshows on my site. As you can see on that page, it does work well with only having to put this into the article:

don’t forget that you put the link in and not the embed code. works the same for youtube

Hehe “so blog” refers to the typical blog site with the templated “blogspot” style top.

In reply to: Poetry websiteBut see the point is to have a DATABASE of information, which is like an encyclopedia for example. WP is a blog that is more like, “here is the encyclopedia article of the day, good luck finding it in 1 year.” So unless there is a plugin for WP that can take advantage of that, another CMS would be better for that style of data management.

I use these so often it’s ridiculous. And i picked out the problem in the same amount of time it took to write the post (figured it out in the middle of writing it).

In reply to: Extra forward slash added causing pages to breakno, the mod_rewrite eliminates index.php from the address, leaving on slashes at the end (like an open directory). For example, you can see this page:
https://www.gavinphotography.com/blog/
with the index.php hidden from the address. It exists, yes, but the address doesn’t need to show it. This link here:
https://www.gavinphotography.com/blog/2006-10-13-welcome-to-the-official-blog-of-gavin-photography/
Shows the article at a directory (that only exists virtually. The actual link would be something like this link:
https://www.gavinphotography.com/blog/index.php/?p=3
understand these two links ARE THE SAME, and mod_rewrite turns the index.php?p=3 link into something easier for people to read (it’s just plain sexier). Try that and it might help.
