In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Loving some of the features…Are you planning to add Buffer to the sharing/publicize modules any time soon? And how about making the comments module more compatible with framework themes (e.g. Genesis)?

In reply to: [Facebook] Difficult but good and missing like boxJust go to appearance > widgets and you’ll find the like box there, among other FB widgets.
Not really. But as it’s just a bundler, perhaps a reminder to uninstall after using it would be useful (security measure).
It’s only a real performance hit if you don’t take the time to deactivate the modules that you don’t want, with other factors taken into account such as if you are on a shared server, or you haven’t optimised your site very well (assuming you aren’t using plugins that are inefficient or otherwise are poorly coded).
It sounds to me you have bigger problems.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Untested outlet for abuse3. Features turned off onsite are available to WP.com users, who mistakenly believe you can see them “liking” your posts.
If you’re correct, this sounds like a bug. I hope you reported it.
4. Turns itself on
Jetpack is only activated when you choose to activate it after installation. Other than that I don’t know what you mean.
with no option to disconnect features if you do not like them
You can deactivate each unwanted module easily. You need to click on the Learn More button on the module card, and a Deactivate button will appear next to it. This is partly why I’ve only given the plugin a 4-star rating. IMO Jetpack should have all modules disabled out of the box. I don’t like Automattic making assumptions about what users will find useful by default. but this is a minor complaint since users will generally be spending some time configuring the features they want anyway.
5. Malfunctions often rendering ALL links on the page (including those generated by outside API) to the base URL. This includes header image. The only way off of pages is to type in a URL to another page.
I haven’t seen this happen, but I’ll check it out. Have you tried to get to the bottom of it in the support forums before posting this review?
7. Privacy issues with statistics. No information available about what will be shared and already is being shared with WP.com.
8. Statistics do not recognize such referrers as Google+. Reporting erroneous at best. No true representation of traffic. Often statistics are belied. e.g. Some days there are more comments from users than JetPack reports page views.
You can easily disable the stats module if it bothers you that much.
No plugin is perfect, including Jetpack, but I don’t feel Jetpack deserved a 1-star rating.

In reply to: [Developer] oops dashboard is looking VERY strange after plugin installI had this too. Deactivating the Pig Latin plugin fixed it. It is meant to happen as that is the function of Pig Latin I believe.
But it would be nice to have a warning when installing Pig Latin through Developer of what will happen, so that people don’t assume the problem is with Developer.
It’s fine thanks. It appears to be working. I had to test it on a bare-bones theme to see that it was indeed installed and working though.
That said, I may well have to get in touch later to signup for a paid plan, as that wasn’t working on your site before.
Thanks for your assistance.
I was wondering about this.
I don’t have a use for it on my site as there’s no need to register, but I have plans for creating membership sites etc where there will be logged in users. In these cases, how would I go about fetching the user’s first name and inserting that into the message?
Thanks. I have the API key now.
But I’m at a loss as to what to do next.
I don’t see any evidence of it replacing native search, and I certainly can’t see a yolink widget to use.
I can’t use the registration wizard on your site because all that does is tells me to download, install and activate a widget, which apparently doesn’t exist. It doesn’t let me go on to the next step in the wizard.
