Thank you, 4k, for your reply, and for the time you must have put in to research my problem.

I did follow through on it, but still no change in the clickable link.

I fear that there is something broken in my WordPress platform, but I don’t know what. I recently changed my WordPress domain to an add-on domain for another site (only one account fee). The hosting company had some slight difficulty in that change, so perhaps a file got screwed … or whatever.

I’m going to put this blog project on the back burner for awhile until I learn more about CSS, ftp and cpanel. That knowledge, and in depth, seems to be the only way a person can make www.ads-software.com work.

The www.ads-software.com platform is like owning an old Jaguar; it’s beautiful when it runs right, but you spend most of your time tinkering with the damn thing.

    So back to “tinkering” school.

Truly, thanks for your efforts 4k.

Whoops! 4k, I hate to be a whiner, but our plan didn’t develop as intended.

I followed your instructions like this:

Went to dashboard and followed path Design>theme editor>header.php, then scrolled down to headerright info. Zapped the code you indicated>
    <a href="#"><img src="<?php bloginfo('template_url'); ?>/images/468x60.gif" alt="Featured Ad" /></a>

then inserted my affiliate code (x’d out my affiliate #).

    <a href="https://www.myaffiliateprogram.com/u/hawaiian/b.asp?id=xxxx&img=468x60_mouseclick.gif">
    <img src="https://www.hawaiiactivity.com/Banners/468x60_mouseclick.gif" border=0></a>
    <img src="https://www.myaffiliateprogram.com/u/hawaiian/showban2.asp?id=xxxx&img=468x60_mouseclick.gif" border=0>

And updated file … in fact updated several times. Restarted computer.

Nada. Nothing happened. Green rectangle clickable link is still overlayed on the logo, although it doesn’t react anymore when it’s clicked.

What did I miss? Or is there a more serious problem here?

Anyway, would appreciate your input again.

    Thanks 4k,
Do I insert the ad code at “Featured Ad”, or just replace The whole code with the one you gave me?
    Well, you did say,

“and replace with your ad code.”

    But, just checking.
Thanks again. The Revolution is coming!

Bumped this up ’cause I’m getting a little desperate about getting pics on my site.

I’m totally confused about all the answers. I know they come from folks who are really trying to help, but every time I read about a fix, there seems to be more posts that it didn’t work for them.

It’s hard to believe that a platform as prestigious as WordPress has not addressed this problem with a final fix.

OK, I’ll just skip the image upload tool. How do I, in detail, upload images through the /images file on my server side (through ftp)?

I’ll be forever grateful for an answer to that question.

Holy Lizard, I forgot to say that all the uploads I corrected and attempted registered successfully in Admin/Plugins.

    Ain’t it Great!

    HEY, CJ, Whooami, and all,
Yeehaw! finally got it through my ol’ 76 year old calcified mind what I was doing wrong. Absolutely couldn’t have done it without your help.
    Thanks.

When using ftp I was clicking on the folder name in the first instance, not clicking to the next instance where the actual folder is. Great lesson to learn.

    OK, as to:

    By the way, I get a 404 if I go to ://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/,
but I get your front page if I go to ://hawaii4newbies.com/

While you are in the dashboard, you may want to check and make sure that your URI’s for your blog are correctly entered and that you are happy with it, then double check your permalinks and you should be good to go.

Under admin/settings I show WordPress Address (URL) as https://hawaii4newbies.com/my blog, and Blog Address (URL) as https://hawaii4newbies.com

I was advised to do this so my url address would show as https://hawaii4newbies.com, without /myblog. What’s the downside to having it that way?

I’m going to use WP automatic Upgrade to upgrade to 2.5.1, but don’t want to screw with success today. Any problems you know of with that upgrade?

as is often said in Hawaii: Aloha a hui hou (till we meet again)

Ok, trying hard to follow instructions.

Now have Akismet, wp stats, and seo meta editor advanced, installed and activated in WP Admin/plugins.

I uninstalled all-in-one from the server side and my ‘puter. Reinstalled just as the author instructed. Doesn’t show in Admin. Checked it’s URL and it shows Parent Directory and all-in-one … and that’s it.

Can Akismet be in successfully installed and displayed in Admin/plugins and still be flawed?

I’ve got 3 other plugins I want to install, but want to get this all-in-one thing whipped first.

If you want to proceed with this, I’d appreciate, but if you’re worn out, I understand that, too.

bumping this up again! Iridiax was kind enough to answer, but answer didn’t solve my question.
No sense in my continuing my blog until I solve some the existing problems.
None of you owe me squat, but would appreciate some input. Surely I’m not the only one who’s had this/these hangups with WordPress.

    Thanking you in advance.

I’m bumping this up, because I’m kinda dead in the water ’til I get this problem resolved.

Lots of info on this problem, but answers don’t seem to answer my problem specifically.

    Thanks

Look, 4k, you’ve helped me in the past, and I appreciate it.
I’m just reporting what the Chief Moderator of Revolution told me.

Re: location of “comment” clickable link
We don’t really provide support for the free themes here Gene, but it’s this you’re looking for….

    <?php comments_popup_link(‘Leave a Comment’, ‘1 Comment’, ‘% Comments’); ?>

You’ll probably need to remove it from home.php, archive.php and maybe search.php and then you can slot it in down beside the tags or wherever else you fancy.

The opening sentence was very clear about Revolution policy.
I don’t intend to contact Revolution forum again.
So, if you intend to continue scolding me, carry on. I’m a 76 year old man who needs more than a forum post to shut him up.

    Gene

Thanks again to marklaflamme, but this is my first attempt to upload a pic. Don’t have any other pics uploaded.

I guess I could just upload to Flickr or such. I don’t know though, some of my best pics are from Creative Commons on Flickr. Whoops!

Damn shame, though. Can’t use a simple little tool like a pic browse and upload.

    Thanks again.

    Gene

Thanks, marklaflamme, for input, but didn’t work for me. My “store uploads in this folder” was already in “wp-content/uploads”, so I just added the wordpress in front + / and saved, but still came up with HTTP error.

If you hear/see//know anyone who is willing to dive into my site and resolve this problem, I’d certainly appreciate knowing about it.

I’d be willing to screw around with all those codes if it didn’t require dismantling my site just to get a pic uploaded. Geez!

    Thanks again.

    Gene

Maybe I bit off more than I bargained for when I went to www.ads-software.com.

I’ve been reading all the posts about this “HTTP Error” “…try later”, and I’m still baffled. The most baffling thing is that most website builders I’ve used have a no-brainer tool for uploading pics from your ‘puter … even with my lack of code skills. I’ve never seen so much confusion over one feature.

I’m at the point where I’ll actually pay someone to get my site fixed so I can upload pics … my site is a wad of wet clay without pictures.

I’ve been so impressed with WP up to this point. Got good coop from Brian Gardner’s Revolution, too.

One thing I’ve noticed with trying to operate the insert/edit feature, is that the little browser box doesn’t allow you to choose JPEG, just “all files.” Maybe that’s normal.

Anyone out there want to make a couple of bucks? Be gentle.

    Gene
