In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Never againHey @flugtraeumer,
Geez, it’s disappointing to see such a negative review come in, but I totally understand where you’re coming from given the things you listed. All I can really say is sorry — personally and form the collective whole of our team over here at The Events Calendar. It’s clear we failed to meet your expectations.
Although the title of your review is “Never again” I still would like to touch on your points because I think there are some things that are worth clarifying.
1: The older version has a lot of bugs. Even bugs wich are known since years are not solved or they return whith some updates.
It’s true that no software is completely “bug free” and we’re certainly not immune to that. However, we do work in super fast two-week release cycles specifically so that we are regularly fixing the highest priority issues. If something has been sitting for years, I’d definitely like to know what it is so we can look into it. We’d never intentionally overlook something and are willing to check it out further if you’re willing to point us in the right direction there.
2: They change the markup almost with every update so that your CSS customization needs to be done again.
I will push back a little bit here because we rarely release breaking changes, especially to templates that would affect anyone’s customizations. And, if we do, we do our best to stay above board and share the changelings with every release both here on www.ads-software.com as well as our own site.
Is there anything else you think we could do to better communicate these changes? We’re always open to suggestions because the last thing we ever want is to catch anyone off guard — we respect your work as well as everyone else who uses the plugin.
3: The new version is useless for the german market since there is no translation for it.
To be fair, translations are a community effort. With our team predominantly speaking English, it would be unrealistic for us to offer a German (or any other language) translation when translating isn’t a service we provide. That said, we do accept contributions for translations and would love it if you (or anyone else for that matter) would help. Here’s a direct link where German contributions can be submitted.
4: The support is poor.
Ouch. While we do take a lot of pride in our support team, we obviously missed the mark with you. We’ll totally own that, and our apologies for letting you down.
Thanks for writing in — even negative reviews are useful because they help us know where we can be doing better. We really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experience with us and the community.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Parameter settings disappearedHey, thanks for following up — and for the updated feedback. I always appreciated open and honest feedback because our team does indeed use it to make things better.
Actually, we did just release a huge update yesterday: Version 5.0. It completely redesigns all of the calendar views. I hope you’ll give the new version a test drive sometime because I think the UI is a huge upgrade from what it was before.
Here’s a detailed write-up if you’re interested:
https://theeventscalendar.com/getting-started-with-the-new-calendar-views/We also have the latest version running over on our demo:

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Parameter settings disappearedHey there, @paulagaces! I saw this review come in and wanted to reach out to you personally so we can help figure this out together and, well, because we’re bummed to see a 1-star review. Hopefully we can turn things around here and get you back on track.
First off, can you tell me what you mean by “parameters”? What sort of parameters were you working with before and how were you using them? I only ask because I’m unaware that we actually removed anything, having looked back at the release notes. Perhaps we overlooked something, but if you could give us an example of what’s no longer working, then we’d be happy to check it out!
Cheers,

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Does not workHey @organicit,
Thanks for reaching out! Sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve bumped into, but I bet we can figure it out together and make things work like a charm.
If I’m understanding correctly (and please correct me if I’m wrong), it sounds like you see the “Events” link in the WordPress menu, but are unable to access any of the screens in it, like Settings, Edit Events, etc.
If that’s correct, are you able to click that link? And, if so, where does that take you? That should give us what we need to figure things out from there. ??
Thanks so much!

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] no support for issuesHey there @ohiowebpro,
I saw your review come in and wanted to reach you to you personally. We take a lot of pride in our support but it’s clear we’ve failed you here and that’s definitely not cool. I understand why you’d leave a one-star review with that sort of experience.
I hope this is mostly a poor job of communicating on our part because I was able to find you ticket and confirm that the issue is indeed fixed and included in our next major release. I’m not sure if we simply failed to note that we were talking about a major release versus a minor release when we said the fix was coming, but I went in and tested the issue with the beta of the next major release and the link to view all events in a day within the month view shortcode does indeed work.
I’m also sorry we gave you the impression that we’re only focused features over fixes. We have two teams that work concurrently, where one team works on fixes and the other on features. The fixes ship every 2 weeks and features come at other points when they’re ready. In this particular case, we wanted to work it into the feature release because of how closely integrated it is with our major overhaul of the calendar views. We definitely wouldn’t want to put a fix into the current version only to have it resurface again in the next release.
In any case, I’m sorry for the trouble and poor communication but hope this at least helps close those gaps.
Thanks,

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Good plugin with correct server settings…Hey there, @screenload!
I saw this review come in and am super sorry to hear about the issues you’ve had with The Events Calendar. While a one-star review is certainly nothing to celebrate, I totally understand why you’d score us that low based on your experience.
The good news is that everything you’ve described is pretty uncommon and totally solvable. Assuming you’re still willing to give us and the plugin a chance, we’d love to help you out over in our support forum. Our team can dig in, see what’s up, and help get things in a much better state.
In the meantime, here are a few things I’d suggest trying out:
- Errors: It’s possible there’s some sort of conflict going on between the plugin and the theme or another plugin. One thing you can do is enable debug mode in WordPress to get more specific information on those errors. If you do that and copy them down, we can get to the bottom of them. WordPress has instructions to enable debugging.
- Wrong URLs: This often has something to do with the structure of permalinks in the WordPress settings, but there are three ways to check. We have those outlined here.
- Shortcodes: This one’s a little puzzling. Is there something in particular happening? If you could elaborate on this when you submit a ticket, I’m sure we can figure it out. For example, is the calendar displaying but not functional? Or is the calendar not displaying at all? Is it a specific shortcode, or all of them? And since shortcodes are a Pro feature, it’s worth checking that both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro are installed together and synced to their latest versions. That’ll ensure things are at least up to speed.
- Time: Try clicking the Enable Timezone Support option in the plugin settings. Sounds like your WordPress setting is where you’d like it and this option will often correct any conflicts between the calendar settings and the site settings.
Again, I’m really sorry to hear about the trouble with our plugin so far. Hopefully we can team up together and make it right (and gain some more stars in the process).
Thanks

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Super disappointingHey there @socialdzine,
Oh gosh, so sorry to hear that the design was all out of whack!
Sounds like what we have here is a conflict between the CSS on the site with the CSS in the plugin. I can assure you that the plugin is extremely customizable and that we can help you get a light colored font on the black background — and it defintely won’t require an upgrade to do it.
If you’d be willing to shoot us a link to the calendar, we’d be happy to take a look at it with you — there are several different ways the plugin allows you to adjust the appearance and we can help suggest the best way.
For example, to change the background color of the calendar, you could add something like this to the CSS:
#tribe-events-pg-template, .tribe-events-pg-template { background: #fff; /* white */ }
But, again, if you can provide a link for us, we can take a look and give you something a little more concrete. In the meantime, here’s an overview of the various ways that the display of the calendar can be customized:

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] The Events Calendar has NO Export – Bad.Hi @intellirexsupport, Geoff here from Modern Tribe.
I wanted to reach out and let you know that there are a number of ways to export data for The Events Calendar. The easiest way is with the WordPress Export Tool and we’ve outlined how to do it here:
https://support.theeventscalendar.com/373241-Using-WordPress-Export-Tools-to-Migrate-Events-Content
So, as long as the new calendar can import WordPress content, that should set you up to migrate content.
We definitely aim to make our content as portable as possible, so hopefully this helps get the job done for you!
Cheers,

In reply to: [Event Tickets and Registration] THIS IS A DISASTER!!!!!Hey there @imc67,
Holy smokes, that does sound like a disaster! I’m sorry you had to go through a complete server restore, though I’m glad you had one at the ready.
While I know you’ve already taken some drastic steps, I’d really like to get to the bottom of what happened here if you’re willing to share some details with me. Admittedly, this is something we haven’t come across in any of our recent releases so I want to make sure our team is able to parse out what happened so we can make adjustments on our end if we need to.
The featured images of ALL EVENTS didn’t showed up, the headers where gone … etc. etc.
Are you using The Events Calendar for events? If so, what version of it are your running and what version of Event Tickets was installed at the time the issue popped up?
The only solution was to restore a backup of the complete server!!!!
Did disabling the plugin have any effect and return things to normal? Was there anything that happened between the time you installed the plugin and you noticing that the featured images and headers were missing? For example, did you install anything else, update WordPress, create a new event, etc.? I want to make sure we can re-create this as best we can.
Lastly, what theme are you using? Is it available to download?
Sorry again for the trouble — we’re here to help figure this out!
