I think that’s pretty messed up, what a pity they didn’t tell me!

I’ve found that if I take the CAPTCHA details from FF or IE and enter them in the Chrome dialogue box it throws an error, but still displays the WordPress log in page.

The backups worked initially on this multisite setup.

I searched for part of the string which I assume to be the name of the backup set and found some instances.

Here’s a screen shot.

Is the fact that the autoload column is set to ‘no’ significant?

I also tried making backups in another site which is part of the same multisite setup with the same lack of results.

No, the list is blank. I had made backups in the past and there was a number of items on the list. Then I made a backup, but no new item appeared on the list. I deleted all backups and despite making new backups several times, and seeing the name of the backup appear briefly in a green bar at the top of the window, the list is still null.

I’m having some issues backing up the settings. I get a message that the backup was successful, but there is no file to restore.

I tried deactivating the theme and reactivating it, but still no backup.

I also found a typo in my child style.css, totally unconnected to this issue.

I fixed it!

I had checked the box under the Writing Settings:-

“WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically”

I unchecked it and that stopped the space being inserted in <?php. Then I did a find and replace on the database to change < ?php to <?php, and we’re back to what passes for normal.

I actually thought of a solution for my States pages. I created 52 WordPress pages which had only an include in the main part, one for each state. Then I created one master page in Word with all the html tags and a filename (eg california.shtml) etc. The state name was a mail-merge field. I merged this with a list of States, resulting in one txt document consisting of all 52 ‘pages’.

Then I created a macro in Word to copy each page into a new file and give each the state-specific filename. All these 52 pages are ftp’d to a seperate folder and are called by the include.

It was a little tricky to get right, but now if I make any changes to that one master page I can create 52 new pages, by running the macro, to ftp to replace the existing files.

I deactivated and removed the plugin. I installed it because it seemed like a good idea at the time.

The top menu still doesn’t seem to be acting how I would expect. What else have I screwed up?

Ok I did that. I’m not sure of the ramifications.

The top menu seems to be formatted more sensibly, but still no drop-downs.
