Just a thought but you might be better off checking the support forum for the theme you are using.

1. Have you tried the 2016 theme?

2. Did you disable the enable plugins one by one (I know, a pain) and test.

3. Does your host provider have a backup you can recover to?

Hmm. What you want sounds kinda fundamental and at least in my humble opinion should not require custom coding but instead some type of selectable parm.

Just my 2 cents.

Wild guess. Really wild. Do you have the proper static home page set in your Reading parms?

I have found the plugin NextScripts: Social Networks Auto-Poster useful for this if you are going from WordPress to facebook and twitter.

Also, try a whois.com lookup for more information using your url.

I don’t mean to be a stick in the mud but this may be a legal issue. If a 3rd party creates a website for you or an organization, whether paid or not, that website should be yours but check with a lawyer. Your organization should pay for the lawyer.

Other option. Maybe you can work with GoDaddy. I imagine you would have to prove ownership of the site. Past emails when setting up the hosting may help. Perhaps the original hosting was directly paid for by your organization.

Big caveat – I am not a lawyer and give this advice in a general opinion manner, not a formal legal advice.

Do you have a backup that could be safely restored? You may not have UpDraft Plus or VaultPress but host providers often take a daily backup. If any doubt contact them.

How are they loading the Home page to begin with? Copying and pasting the link? Typing it in? Clicking on an existing link? Choosing from Bookmarks?

Perhaps a notice on the Dept page to bookmark it and use it for future access?

True. But you would need to know 100% absolutely for sure that a given backup was not also infected. Without any shadow of a doubt. I always err on the side of being extremely conservative – if practical.

If I have a customer urgently waiting to get their site back up I don’t want to try something I am not sure of when I know the rebuild is 99.99999% good (nothing being perfect). Obviously it could be really, really difficult to clone a site. But I want to avoid going back to my client saying I tried one thing and it didn’t work and now I am going to try another. Now that could be acceptable. Every situation is different.

Also, when I say rebuild, I am talking about a fresh install of WordPress. Seems drastic but again, if practical.

Not a first choice, but is it practical to create a new site using the same url and content? Sometimes more time and energy can be spent running down a hack then just getting back in business by creating a replacement site.

Have you asked your hosting provider to try to help?
