In reply to: style=”pointer-events: none;” added to classic paragraphHi Sajjad, thanks very for your reply. I’ve added the code using WPCode as you suggest, but interestingly it hasn’t worked. I know enough to like your code but not enough to understand why it isn’t working and whether that’s to do with how I’ve added it in WPCode. So I’ll follow your other suggestion and correct it manually – and maybe this is telling me it’s finally time to redesign this 10 or 11 year old page! Thanks again

In reply to: WordPress 5.3.2 doesn’t updateHi VPS9
Thanks very much for responding. I had already done a manual upgrade, which is what I have been doing for years, but I thought I’d try it again as you suggest making sure I definitely followed every step. But after doing all that, I still see the same message in the dashboard, ‘WordPress 5.3.2 is available! Please update now.’
I don’t know if it’s relevant, but I had many failed transfers when copying wp-includes and wp-admin, and had to overwrite many existing files, although I had deleted the existing wp-includes and wp-admin folders.
Many thanks, James

In reply to: Version 4.4 update – Fatal error: Class 'WP_Widget' not foundThanks very much. I was finally able to address this again today. I had already done a manual update again as suggested by Samuel Wood (Otto); in addition, I changed the wp-settings file and all is now well.
Thanks for your help.

In reply to: Version 4.4 update – Fatal error: Class 'WP_Widget' not foundI have now been advised by my webhost that the error is caused by a missing class, namely ‘WP_Widget’ inside the class-wp-widget-pages.php on line 17 as the error messages suggests. They say that this is a coding issue.
I’m not sure how ssvandin and I should proceed. Any suggestions?
Many thanks

In reply to: Version 4.4 update – Fatal error: Class 'WP_Widget' not foundThanks mohammad. The host is 123-reg. My guess had been that the problem was the plugins so I hadn’t contacted them.

In reply to: Version 4.4 update – Fatal error: Class 'WP_Widget' not foundThanks very much indeed for this discussion.
Regarding Mohammad and techdruid’s comments on WP-CLI – I’ve had a look at this – https://wp-cli.org/ and other sites – but have to say I haven’t understood what it is and how to update it, or apparently related matters like cURL or wget.
Might someone be able to point me to where to start?
Many thanks

In reply to: Version 4.4 update – Fatal error: Class 'WP_Widget' not foundDear Matthew
Thanks very much for getting back to me so quickly. I’ve tried your suggestion, but no luck.
A new error message says:
Fatal error: Class ‘WP_Widget’ not found in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage22/al/ly/so/allysonpollock.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/mailchimp/mailchimp_widget.php on line 481
Would you suggest following the same procedure for MailChimp and any other plugins?
Best wishes
James

In reply to: Site no longer visible after 4.0 upgradeIt was as simple as changing the theme! Thanks Ivan!
Thanks both of you! Separately there may have been a problem with the back up (which I am addressing separately) so I’m glad I didn’t have to try to restore, Daniel.
Thanks both!
James
