If I use this path instead, sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/rest.php, I get a different error message, so at least this seems to resolve the issue flagged up above. The new error message is `Validation failed: ERROR: No CMS user associated with given api-key’.
Update: Actually, all issues are now resolved. I had put the wrong api key in the user logged onto CMS.
