Thanks all. Had this happen with the 3.0.1 update on 2 of 4 sites. Had one time out twice and had to re-peat the process, but eventually it worked.

Was able to just delete the .maintenance file after making it visible following the directions above.

Stone, Hunter – thanks for the help. I tried another upload with auto overwrite and used a fresh 2.6 download (is it possible that the first pack that went live last night had an issue?). Then also deleted gallery legacy elements in my wp-content folder. Also 2 other files in the folder db.php and wp-cache-config.php which were in the wp-content folder.

My uneducated guess is that either a file i’d missed got re-uploaded/updated or the wp-cache stuff was conflicting with the 2.5/2.6 caching process.

After that the site is working again.

Really? Any possible tips on what you were playing with that might have done it?

Having the same issue upgrading from 2.3.3.

Though I can pull up my wp-admin page. Though all i can do is enter my username and password. It won’t progress past that page.

Where can you find: php.ini

Not seeing it anywhere on my server.

I’ve tried the other fixes suggested without any luck.

My issues: Blank screen for everything but wp-admin. When I login wp-admin does do a password check and will either tell me it’s incorrect or correct, but instead of logging in on correct submission it just sits on wp-admin.

I contacted my host who fixed whatever the problem was – they didn’t say. Though now i’m having the blank screen issue.

Ok – so i logged in via my websites cpanel and was able to fix the permission issue with the folder….but somehow goofed my config.

Also – when I try and change the security permissions for the folder via smartftp – it gives me an error saying it cant be changed?

Excellent, found the stuff – it’s just in a HUGE dump. So, I assume my only real option is to sort through the block of old post data, isolate the text in the mess then transfer it? Any way to avoid that – or not at this point?
