hmmmm …….
If you hack away at the core files why would future upgrades be an issue? I mean, why would you want to change (upgrade) a customized website? Other than security issues.

I don’t agree Otto, I think it’s one step backwards. There is no user advantage that I can see. I normally need to hardcode and tweak the link/cat php calls anyway, if for no other reason to get them in the correct display order. But honestly, this bookmark feature should all be done from the admin panel. Functionality and versatility is always the coders goal. Programmers/coders/developers tend to forget about end-users. To Joe Blow, who only wants a blog for the local Little League team can’t use this wonderful versatile bookmark feature, what good is it? Not everybody is a PHP geek, nor wants to be. If end users can’t easily use what the coders churn out it diminishes the value of it immensely. In my eyes the job is unfinished, it doesn’t have a user interface in the Admin panel, it was not ready to be put in production. I’m sure there will be plugins written just so bloggers can blog. How embarrassing that would be to me if it required a plugin to use a key feature I developed. I agree it’s “more consistent and rational” and adds a huge amount of versatility. IF someone wants to learn it’s nuances inside and out and start hacking around. All these “bells and whistles” don’t mean much if ordinary people can’t use them. The old system was usable from the Admin panel, bookmarks is not.

In reply to: Do we really care about 800×600 people? Thanks Otto42, you’ve saved me alot of keystrokes!
We threw all the global data we could obtain in the middle of the table and sifted through it carefully. That was 3 months ago. At that time Canada led the US by slightly more than 1% in bb/dsl users. It seemed the only thing holding the UK back at that time was a lack of infrastructure. Our mission was to gear web design toward the people who actually used the internet.
We also learned in the previous 14 months broadband/dsl users were increasing at the rate of 1%(+-) per month with no anticipated slow down.
lhk seems to be in a situation thats common. But, that small percentage is just that, a small percentage. And it is dwindling quite fast. That segment is slowly falling through the cracks. It’s just not cost effective marketing to attempt 100% saturation.
webva – if designing is a hobby that’s one thing, if it’s for profit then I suggest a dual monitor setup, your worklife and productivity will improve greatly.
PS- I think I still have a 10″ amber monitor around here someplace if anyone needs it.

In reply to: Do we really care about 800×600 people?I design everthing fluid with adequate base font sizes using em or % CSS relationships throughout. It depends alot as to the purpose of the web site. Marketing sites dictate much different design than informational sites. I do think however it’s time to embrace the 21st century, and let the 8×6 viewers either scroll away or fade away. Dialup users are also dwindling quite rapidly.
I would have to agree with Otto42 ……..

Yes, there are many differing experiences with GoDaddy. I’ve been with GD for years also ladydelaluna. To quote ebee: “And for goodness sakes, dont ever trust what a godaddy rep tells you because 50% of the time it won’t be correct.”
Normally the reason for that is because the person calling tech support 50% of the time has bitten off more than they can chew. And, are usually so uninformed they can’t even explain the problem to a tech. They’ve read too many forums and use technical terms and nomenclature incorrectly. Many people calling in use the tech support center as a free training center for new webmasters.
Everything said in this thread is in the “Support” link on the GoDaddy home page. Step-by-step-by-step. (top-right side) There you’ll find FAQs with a search function.
GoDaddy isn’t the largest in the world because they’re wrong 50% of the time.
