In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Lightroom Title to WordPress CaptionI can now get the User Comment mapped correctly. I have not done an extensive test, but happy with what I have seen so far.
Thanks.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Theme 2012. CarouselThat worked a treat. I would not have guessed to look under Learn More. I will make some CSS changes and post you a link here in a few days time. I think I will get close to my preferred format. Help appreciated.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Theme 2012. CarouselI very much appreciate your response.
I will have a look at the CSS. Can you point in the correct direction. The last time I looked I was phased by the variable nature of things as the screen was resized (say… so I could follow with Firebug.
Regarding the carousel… its such a shame …. there is so much white space that cannot be used and so much potential.
Final point. Can I keep the gallery and turn off the Carousel. I will try and link to a custom page / template with the info formatted to facilitate picture and data.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Theme 2012. CarouselI had a lot of postings and had done a lot of testing, leaving a big mess of postings, so I deleted them all just now.
I will repost and send you a link.
Thank you.

In reply to: [Twenty Twelve] Include Description Text in post.Correction to above. “This will speed up posting of images”
I meant to say… This will speed up posting, as images will already have the bulk of the text required in their description field.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Lightroom Title to WordPress CaptionI have progressed a lot since my post, and think I nearly have it cracked. I have to say that WP wp_read_image_metadata is a serious mess and should be an embarrassment to all concerned.
I am delighted to get your response.
Your partly correct about mapping to 2#005 but there is a big gottcha with this approach, as that field only holds a max of 64 chars.
[I am not sure where this restriction lies, maybe IPTC spec), but is bound to cause embarrassment to someone downstream when parts of their caption disappear. Also, I am never comfortable using the Photoshop File Info screens. For example, Headline is another important field in the Lightroom / WordPress world, but while it appears in Lightroom as an editable metadata field, it does not appear (that I can see and would love to be corrected) in the PS file info display.
An alternative for any Lightroom fans reading this is to use the Exif Field called User Comment (UserComment in your Exif column worked for me). This is actually stored within the Exif data on a jpg and is not restricted the same as the 64 chars of the IPTC field 2#005. Plus, it can be maintained in Lightroom.
I have also found a bug. I will send you details via your web site contact.

Matt O’Brien

In reply to: [Twenty Twelve] Alignment of captions / titles with imagesJust a quick update.
The problem looks very much like a plug-in issue.
Here is a link to a working post, with the picture / captions and descriptions working as I expected.https://mattobrienblogcom.fatcow.com/matt_blog/?p=543
Thank you for your help.

In reply to: [Twenty Twelve] Alignment of captions / titles with imagesEsmi,
I have also tested using 2012 and no child. However, to be fair, I should do a fresh test from absolute scratch. I am more knowledgeable now than when I started. I will try again when I get the chance.

In reply to: [Twenty Twelve] Alignment of captions / titles with imagesI have been working backwards thru my email. So, sorry if these are a bit out of sequence.
Esmi, I downloaded several fresh themes last night and had the same experience. I did not reset the plug-ins (only using 1)… but it might be the problem. I also checked with the Plug-In developer, who advised me a few days ago it was a WP / Theme issue.
Anyway, for the moment I cannot spend any more time on this… but very curious to understand the root cause at the same time. i will return to this problem as soon as I can.

In reply to: [Twenty Twelve] Alignment of captions / titles with imagesHi Lee,
I will try that. This problem with captions was there a long time before the picture gallery plug-in, but it might be interfering with your suggestions above. A valid point.
However, I have now approached it from another perspective.
Have a look at this posting.
https://mattobrienblogcom.fatcow.com/matt_blog/?p=531
You will notice
1. I have a properly formatted caption formatted and placed under the image (exactly as I have specified in CSS).2. The extensive description has been pulled automatically from the jpg metadata (as has the caption, which WP does not allow you do).
3. The Location (ex jpg metadata)
4. Copyright (ex jpg metadata).
I have not entered any of this data using WP editor or a replacement editor, but I have posted a single short code in a std WP posting. I manage my images in Lightroom, apply the metadata there. I have now an automated process to export from Lightroom . This is very close to what I have been striving at for months.
I have wasted 2 full days dealing with the WP caption mess. It is absolutely amazing that this problem exists with such themes as 2012.
I will go back later and explore the WP caption problem, but cannot afford to spend any time on it right now.
I really appreciate your help and will return to this, purely out of stubbornness to get to the bottom of it. I will post here when I crack it. HTML / CSS is not my scene and this is hard, frustrating work for me. Thanks yet again.

In reply to: [Twenty Twelve] Alignment of captions / titles with imagesLee, I have posted screen grabs of the posting / problem image at this link.
https://mattobrienblogcom.fatcow.com/matt_blog/?p=516
1. Caption entry screen.
2. View of posting in Text View
3. Link to sample posting
4. Screen grab of caption to the right.I do not fully understand the point you have made above. I am not trying to modify html in a posting, just figure out how to get a Caption under a Picture (separate from any other posting text, say describing the picture) using standard WP [Should i be using a better tool / Theme]
I hope you have time to look at this. I was delighted to get your response and about to test your suggestion again.
Regards.
