Everything is now working perfectly with StageShow 9.7.4 using the new PHPMailer MIME encoding methods option. We are using the free Fluent SMTP email plugin connected to Microsoft 365 via OAuth2 authentication.

A million thanks, Malcolm, for all the work you have put into investigating the problem and implementing the fix! And thank you also, Chris, for all the help you gave me with debugging.

I think we can all agree that StageShow is the best tool available for community theatres to manage their bookings and ticket sales.

    Cheers,
    Graham

    Hi Steve

    I’m so glad it works.

Regarding the email formatting – firstly it has to be HTML, but you probably know that ??

Secondly, you should definitely create files with your own names, otherwise they will be overwritten with a new version of the plugin.

Thirdly, I think there is a problem with the Email Template Editor, but I haven’t had time to investigate it to gather enough information to pass on to Malcolm. However, what I suggest you do is this:

    – Install a file manager plug-in, if you don’t have one already (I recommend the free WP File Manager from mndpsingh287).

    – Navigate to public_html/wp-content/uploads/stageshow/emails

    – right-click on the StageShow file you want to use as a starting point (probably stageshow_HTMLEMail.php or stageshow_ReserveEMail.php) and click “Code Editor”

    – immediately click “SAVE AS” and give it a new name (so you don’t accidentally overwrite the origina!)

    – edit the new file and make your changes, then click SAVE

    – in StageShow > Settings, change the “Sale EMail Template” on the “Payment Gateway” tab and/or the “Reservation EMail Template” on the “Reservations” tab to your new file(s)

    – go to StageShow > Tools to send a test email. Make sure the MIME Encoding is set to PHP Mailer Methods (if that is the one you are using in Settings). Select a Completed sale to test the Sale email, or a Reserved one to test the Reserved email, and divert it to yourself.

I work with two browser tabs open – one in StageShow > Tools and the other in the code editor. After each change, I SAVE the file (keeping it open) and then switch to the other tab to test it.

    Good luck!

    Cheers,
    Graham

    Hi Steve

Malcolm has been doing a lot of work in this area recently and it is working beautifully for me now.

First, check that you are running the latest version – 9.7.4.

Then go to the StageShow settings page, Advanced tab, and about two thirds of the way down you will see a new setting, “EMail MIME Encoding”. Set this to “Uses PHPMailer Methods” and click “Save Changes”.

Hopefully this will fix the problem!

    Cheers,
    Graham

Yes, problem was fixed in 9.7.3 a few hours ago.

    THANKS MALCOLM!!!

This problem has been fixed in the latest plugin version – 9.7.3

Please update the plugin and try again.

    THANKS MALCOLM!!!!

    Regards, Graham

    Hi Ralph

For some reason, moderator Steven Stern (@sterndata) deleted this post yesterday thinking that it was asking for support on a new topic. Anyway, here it is again, and I hope it stays here for long enough for you to see it!

I believe it was fixed a couple of days ago with a new release, version 9.7.1.

Please update to this latest version and try again.

    Best regards,
    Graham

    Hi @stephenandrewwalters

Does this only affect confirmations for reservations (pay later) or does it also affect orders that are paid for at the time through a payment gateway (e.g. PayPal)?

    Regards,
    Graham

    Hi @ipur2020

I believe Malcolm has fixed this in the last 24 hours with a new release, version 9.7.1.

    Hi everyone

Thank you, Chris, for your comments, and THANK YOU MALCOLM FOR THE FIX!!!!

I also am in the “know enough to be dangerous” category, but I’d really like to help if I can. I’ve worked with more that 10 different programming languages over the years, but unfortunately PHP is not one of them. However, I’d like to think I’m not too old to learn ??

    Cheers,
    Graham

PS: I love the customisations you have done on your website, Chris, and I might email you privately about them if you don’t mind.

    Hi @bobocop

You’re right – Malcolm has had a break before and I certainly don’t begrudge him doing so again. StageShow, when it is working well, is an awesome plugin which has served our theatre well for many years. (We did actually pay $120 for StageShow Gold before it was released as a free plugin) Some of the features, like the drill-down, were actually added at my suggestion, and Malcolm has generally been very responsive in the past, for which we are all grateful.

However, I would just dearly like someone to fix some of the problems that have apparently arisen in the last couple of years – most notably that of missing data from the reservation userform which is preventing reservation emails being sent.

    Cheers,
    Graham

I see the same problem was reported 3 months ago by @ipur2020 with the subject Empty email fields

His/her post has not yet been answered.

Exactly the same problem here! I just logged in to post a message about it and saw your message.

    More information:
The plugin appears not to be storing the necessary data in the wp_sshow_sales table. Name, address, email and phone fields are all blank.
After entering contact details and clicking the Reserve button, a message pops up saying “Tickets reserved – Confirmation EMail sent to ” but there is no email address.

The problem used to happen intermittently, and I think I tracked it down to cases where there was an error or blank field in the contact details screen, but now it is happening every time.

We need an urgent fix please!
