In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] UpdraftPlus backups failI had already re-authenticated with Dropbox before I did that failed backup, so re-authentication wasn’t the issue. However, I just set the “split backups every” option to 25 mg, and the backup succeeded. Thanks for all your help.
Hi, wfandie,
I decided to skip the SMTP plugin and go directly to my web host. It turns out that there was a lock on email from the server. It’s now removed and a WF test email was OK, so I’m marking the problem resolved. Thanks for all your help.
Hi, wfandie,
I’m only semi-literate technically, and I’m reluctant to install an SMTP plugin, at least for now. But I tried a couple of other things.
In the past, I simply sent test emails and they didn’t arrive at the destination. However, I just noticed this WF message when I send a test email: “The result we received from the WordPress wp_mail() function was: False.” I tried changing the email address to the one I use for my other WF site, grammarphobia.com, and I get the same false response.
I’ve already double-checked and triple-checked the spelling of the email address in WordFence. And one of the first things I did was check on hosting spam filtering. I’m getting email at that address from everybody but WordFence.

In reply to: [BackWPup – WordPress Backup & Restore Plugin] Backups slower and largerHi, Brandon,
I’ve tried all sorts of things, but finally resolved the problem by excluding the WordFence logs and cache, The full backup dropped from 275 to 45 megabytes, and from 723 to 86 seconds. Thanks for your help and patience.

In reply to: [BackWPup – WordPress Backup & Restore Plugin] Backups slower and largerHi, Brandon,
I switched the website from HTTP to HTTPS a few weeks ago. Could that be causing the increased backup size? I haven’t added any significant new data. Another possibility: in the general job settings under Archive Format, there’s this note under Tar BZip2: “Disabled due to missing bzopen() PHP function.” (I’m using Tar GZip.) Finally, I recently added an SSL certificate. Could that be affecting the backups? Thanks for your patience.

In reply to: [BackWPup – WordPress Backup & Restore Plugin] Backups slower and largerHi, Brandon, I just went through all my settings and changed a few things, but the backups are still much slower than they used to be and the size of the backups keeps getting much larger without a good reason. The latest backup had an error message I’ve never seen before:
WARNING: File “/home/content/13/9352413/html/wp-content/wflogs/.nfs0000000003c71117000a1a5c” is not readable!
All things considered, I’d rather not exclude my WordFence logs.
I can’t figure out what’s wrong. Here’s the log of the latest backup:

In reply to: [BackWPup – WordPress Backup & Restore Plugin] Backups slower and largerYes, I’m still having the problem. The latest backup took about seven minutes. I’ve been busy lately and haven’t had a chance to check my settings. Does BackWPup have a page somewhere with the appropriate basic settings, especially the exclusions? I don’t remember what my original settings were. Thanks.

In reply to: [BackWPup – WordPress Backup & Restore Plugin] 3.4.0 bugsHi, Brandon,
In the “Exclude files/folders from backup” section under “Files” in the “Edit”area for the Job in question, these are the exclusions:
“.DS_Store,.git,.svn,.tmp,/home/content/13/9352413/html/stats/logs,desktop.ini”
This is the warning message: “WARNING: Link “/home/content/13/9352413/html/stats/logs” not following.
Thanks for looking into this. I’m technically illiterate, so please try to explain any steps I have to take as simply as possible. Thanks again.
