As proposed, I wiped the entire system, installed SSL on the system before the WordPress installation.
Now whenever I try the URL which is https://blogs.ucc.edu.gh in a browser, it does come on, other times it doesn’t open at all. It is now on and off. When its off and I restart the server it comes on again. For the IP address of the box which is 41.204.53.188, whenever I key it into a browser, it opens the apache page. I seem not to get what is happening.
Please try and help me.

Hello all thanks for your advise. Bet i tried replacing the theme folder with an already existing backup and its not working. the links at the backend (dashboad) doesnt open at all

Thanks for the info. but do i get the core wp files of the 3.7.1 version and put them into my old installation. Wldnt it affect the multisite installation because some codes were added to the .htaccess file and the wp_config.php file while creating the multisite and also in the current multisite installatiions there are no blogs.dir folder. This folder keeps the individual images site users have on their individual sites. Can i also change the superadmin name because i used “admin” as the username and it is very easy guessing.

(For the first couple hundred users you will not have an issue with this.)
What about more than 700 users
