In reply to: WordPress in Subdirectory Not Directly AccessibleI’m sorry i cant help further, and sorry what i said didn’t really help ??
The next two things i would try are:
- see if i could access any of the front-end pages at all on the second installation.
- next: on the second installation i would change the permalinks settings to
‘Default: example.com.au/?p=123’
Sorry i couldn’t be much help, I hope you find an answer or that someone posts a solution here.
Good luck ??

In reply to: WordPress in Subdirectory Not Directly AccessibleI’m thinking this has something to do with a conflict with pretty permalinks,
Can you tell me what settings you have for both the main and the subdirectory install under Settings > Permalinks
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: WordPress in Subdirectory Not Directly Accessiblethis seems like a complicated problem, and i think i am just understanding it.
i’m only guessing here, but i think having a WordPress installed in a subdirectory named ‘2015’ makes the main WordPress install in the main directory confused, and it might have an easier time understanding a Word instead of a number. and since the main WordPress has a .htaccess file it takes precedence over any subdirectories. when someone visits example.com/2015/ the main WordPress thinks you are trying to visit a blog post or page on the main WordPress install (but can’t find it) and then redirects you to the home page.
Maybe having a distinct name (a word not a number) for the location of your secondary WordPress install will help solve this issue.
since /2015/wp-admin/ works, try this:
Go to your Admin dashboard for the 2015 install, and go to Settings > General, under ‘Site Address (URL)’ type in https://example.com/seconday/ – make sure to come up with a Word for a name and use it where i have used the word ‘Seconday’, and double check that it is not currently in use on the main website. (don’t change WordPress Address (URL) at all)
if this fails, /2015/wp-admin/ should still work fine, so you can change it back.

In reply to: Home Page not displayingin regards to setting a page to show your latest posts, you can select any page and posts will automatically show up at the top of the page you select in the Customise menu.
If you still can’t see the page ‘Blog’ as an option, try 2 things. First create a new page and call it Blog Page or Blog 2 and see if that shows up as an option.
Secondly, Go to your ‘Blog’ page and edit it via the admin dashboard, down the side check to see if you have the ‘template’ drop down menu in the ‘Page Attributes’ section which should be under the ‘Publish’ Section. Some themes have the template drop down menu others don’t, if you do select the option ‘Blog Page’. now click update or publishIf you still can’t get your posts to show up on a page, then im not sure whats wrong there sorry ??

In reply to: Home Page not displayingCheck out a maintenance or coming soon plugin – for example this one looks good https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/ultimate-coming-soon-page/ – this plugin will show a ‘coming soon’ or ‘under construction page’ to anyone who is NOT logged in and they wont be able to visit any other page unless they login, while you as the administrator can freely browse the website as normal without seeing the coming soon page while logged in
?? hope that helps ??
Hi,
Generally hosts only provide either only a few versions back, but generally no more than 2 or 3 versions (e.g 3.9.1, 3.9.0) or they only have 1 version available and it is usually the most current version.
If there is a host that offers the ability to install any WordPress version i haven’t herd of it before sorry.
The only way i know of to accomplish this task is by manually installing the WordPress version you wish by downloading the version you need from here https://www.ads-software.com/download/release-archive/
Warning: Installing old versions of WordPress come with inherent security risks, new versions of WordPress are released to fix bugs and security issues that are discovered. Older versions of WordPress and their known security holes are more than likely well known by anyone wanting to do damage to insecure websites, To avoid any security issues you should always use the most current version of WordPress on a live production website website.
Hope that helps ??

In reply to: fatal error-I can't login inIf you haven’t backed up, do that now before you do anything else
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: fatal error-I can't login inHi,
Did you by any chance happen to make a backup of your WordPress files and the database before updating? (if you don’t actively make backups yourself then maybe with some luck your host does this automatically for you)
when you say WordPress 3.5.1, do you actually mean 3.5.1 or the latest version which is 3.9.1?
If you were updating from 3.5.1 to 3.9.1 there could have been a problem or conflict that occurred during the update that caused the fatal error. And as far as i know the only way you could recover from this is by using a old WordPress release (3.5.1) getting your WordPress active again and then deactivating all plugins and then try updating WordPress again first, and then your plugins (update before reactivating plugins). But this would entirely depend on if you have a working version of your database.
If you haven’t made a backup of your WordPress website, now is a good time to use an FTP client to backup your WordPress files, and then login to your Hosting cPanel and make a backup of your MySQL database

In reply to: Home Page not displayingHi,
I have made similar mistakes in the past, it is probably because you have some how deseleted your home page as the default WordPress front page. in the dashboard settings you can have WordPress show either a static front page or your latest blog posts on the front/home page of your site. This could have happened in a number of ways, but the easiest way to fix it is to just go back through and set up your Home page again.
Go to the WordPress dashboard then go to Appearance > Customize, make sure you have your home page selected as ‘static’ page and then select the page you wish to show up as the default home page ( the default page that shows when you go to knitonestitchone.com)
in regards to the ‘Home’ tab not working: go to Appearance > Menus, in here check to make sure you have the correct pages in the main menu, and particularly check to see if the Home page menu tab is indeed the correct page.
In the past i have created a page called ‘Home’ and then put that into the menu, only to have deleted it and created a new front page later on, but i forgot to run through and make sure that it was set to be the default static front page and i forgot to put it in the menu.
For me, the reason the old ‘Home’ tab did not update automatically is because i had added it as a custom link.
Remember, setting your home page to be the main WordPress static front page doesn’t mean it will be added to the menu, so u have to go and do this manually. Remember to add the home page from the ‘Pages’ list and not as a custom link as i did.
hopefully this fix’s your problem ??
Hi, I think it will do what you want, so long as you follow the instructions on the plugin page carefully.
Before moving forward if i was you i would post the exact same post in the plugin support forum here – https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping – and ask for any advice and tips before moving forward.
It seems like a well documented procedure but looks like it requires some changing of DNS and hosting configurations.

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Wish there was premium supportThat is a good idea,
The last few days iv been seriously considering it. I’m not a developer more of a helper, i seem to have a nack for bumping into those people who really want a WordPress website to do something, kind of know that it can (probably because they herd it somewhere), but aren’t really the techy type and get frustrated with it too easily. I think it comes from my experience working with websites and bricklayers (no offence to brickies, they are pretty smart).
I haven’t got heaps of customers this way just yet as i mostly use WordPress at work, but soon it might be worth hiring a developer on a regular basis…
Thanks for your suggestion ??

In reply to: [WP Sitemap Page] How to create a visual sitemapHi Tony,
Slickmap looks really cool. I’m a newbie (aspiring WP developer) do you think it would be possible to turn slickmap into a WP plugin?
it would be really helpful because id be able to show an entire website to a client in one diagram.
your thoughts would be interesting ??
You completely missed the point of what i said which is you should leave a negative review and feedback, but theres no reason to be rude about it.
P.S There is nothing wrong with a negative review, if thats ur honest opinion.
